Street & City / Recommendations Amsterdam
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:22:13 PM »
Hi!

Thought i might use the forum for something, which i think you guys could help me out with.

I'm going to Amsterdam[Netherlands] tomorrow, and i would like to know if any of you have any recommendations. I'm thinking of beautiful places to visit and to photograph, and not the coffee shops which i am well aware of.

Is there any "must visit" places?

Thanks in advance!

Lenses / Re: 24mm F/1.4L II or 24mm-70mm F/2.8 II
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:29:53 PM »
I have, just as you, given it a thought whether or not et would be "better" to have the 24L II or the new 24-70.

For many purposes you probably would be better of with the zoom, as it is more versatile. And with todays crazy-high ISO levels, getting enough light, might not be as big of a problem.

Of course i know there is a difference between large apertures and high ISO's. But that's one of the things you'll have to decide with yourself, do you use your 24mm a lot at f 2.8 or faster?

For me there is a whole other aspect which haven't been mentioned yet.
As a street photographer, the feeling of using a prime. Getting to know it. Knowing it's exact framing without looking through the viewfinder, or at least only for a breif moment, is one of the things i enjoy most. This lets me take pictures faster then people get irritated by some random man(me) talking pictures of them. Which in some situations, means getting the shot.
Same goes for the size of the prime, which is not so aggressive and provocative, as it is often smaller.

So, which is most convenient for you?
Do you like walking around all day with one prime or are willing to have multiple lenses with you?

Last but not least, can you afford buying three primes, like a 24, 50 and 85, to replace one zoom lens like the 24-70?

I love my primes, and i will stick with them, they have something special upon them, which a like, including huge apertures  ;)

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps solving you matter.

just noticed that jessops a big uk retailer has dropped the price of the canon 5d mk2 significantly to £1549.95 today ahead of canons announcement. This retailer get all the canon gear 1st so I'm guessing they have many contacts at canon and know something i predict a 5d mk 3 tomorrow remember my post and congratulate me then lol :D

I just realized that that equals almost $2,500 US.  Thats just the regular price dude.  Actually, thats higher than the regular price.

You cant compare UK and US prices like that. Dont forget about Taxes and stuff. We have to pay more over here...

Lenses / Re: EF300 2.8 and 400 2.8 Mark IIs shipping?
« on: August 29, 2011, 08:14:11 AM »
It really is disspiriting to see just how much more we have to pay for the same items in rip off Britain.  The 400mm f/2.8 at $11500 in the US costs $14600 in the UK, even our stupidly high taxes don't account for that level of disparity, and when that is multiplied across the whole range of camera gear then the rip off is enormous.

I think if I needed to buy one of these lenses it would be cost effective to hop on a plane buy one & bring it back with me!

In Norway we pay 18.153 dollar

16.300 US$ in denmark, at least we aint Norway :P

Canon General / Re: Nikon to launch D800 D4 this Month?

There's another rumour floating around of a Canon announcement on the 18th August (come on CR you should be telling us these!).  Maybe a DSLR or two then?

Yes they should! (Psst. where have you read this?) ;)

Those of us waiting for announcements of the 5DIII and 1DsIV. Could sure hope so, that this Nikon announcement rumor i true. IF it is, it would probably "force" Canon to put up with some announcements as well. Which I would be very happy to see!

To me it seems most reasonable that Canon launches the 1DsIV first, but it depends on the Nikon announcements as well. Though it for me would be best to see a 5DIII first!

Like many others i'm waiting for the 5DIII

I think it's completely bogus.  The camera pictured is a 5DII.

Actually isn't the picture of a 5d Mk I?

May i ask, what is Torchwood?

This looks very weird, everything seems to be canon gear but the house states "NIKON" very odd? (and Model ? KCJ26) What is this :)!

And she is not even pressing the shutter release, she is taking a pic with the multifunction button  :D

Also seems very odd to me!

Site Information / Re: Signature Creation

Me too. Is this written anywhere? Given that plenty of people seem to be have been confused by this maybe there should be a message somewhere during the set up process.

I think not! I guess CR haven't thought about, "telling people"(meaning new users) that this function was disabled, since it has no greater meaning for the site, its just a "add-on" so to say. Eventually people who would like/need this feature would figure it out. And the non serious users wont, but it wont matter cause they probably wont continue to use the site anyway.

It would be very interesting to see this in action. I would very much like to try this myself as well. Can't decide wether this would be a fun or just a silly buy for me!

Where i'm from you don't see this lens ever. Camera stores don't even have them on there shelves.
If anyone has one out there, it would be nice to see some pictures?

Tastino I really like your photos, and the idea with black header and footer just works so very well. Your pictures look very crispy according to the image quality. This makes me wanna buy this lens even more!
