a newer entry level FF is what i am waiting for too, currently using a 5DC, want something with better AF, video, and maybe 16mp.
my prediction would be Canon simply use the 5D2 with lower price to counter the rival of D600. Just lowering the price to $1600-$1700 USD will get a lot of Canon buyers.

i have thought about the Samyang, but can't live without AF.
a 35mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4 from Sigma sounds like a good combo for Canon user, since the 85mm 1.2L is not everyone's favorite (price and focus speed wise)
how does the Sigma 85mm compare to Nikkor 85mm F1.4 (creammachine) anyways?

Ok, so i can't afford the 35L @ $1479 USD, and the 35mm F2.0 is not really what i am looking for.
I hope Sigma can make a 35mm F1.4 HSM just like the 50mm & 85mm, and have it price between the two.
I am sure this lens would sell well for Nikon and Sony mount as well, since the Nikkor 35mm F1.4 is ~$1650 and the Sony G 35mm is ~$1500
anybody else want the same thing?

maybe you should get a tripod that has smaller footprint. or a tripod that can go vertically higher, while using 2 sections of the legs?

thanks for your test/post, exactly what i am looking for, i shoot toddlers too.
The AF seems to be far from what Mirrorless can do.
The Sony SLT does a great job, but with limitation at widest aperture.

I don't believe a great dslr video AF exists anywhere yet, so those results are pretty much what I expected to see. Pro's will continue to use manual focus. On the plus side, the video quality of t4i with the 40mm looks very nice..

but for 24-70, i would get the Tamron VC out of the 3, how many client actually complain your Bokeh isn't "L" like?
if you are in smaller budget, the Sigma 24-70 HSM is also an option > Tamron 28-75 > Sigma 24-70 non-HSM.
with the above 3, you can buy youself a good 85mm F1.8 for low light, F2.8 isn't that fast anyways.

i am on the same boat, i can't afford F2.8 zooms, so the F4 series 70-200 is what making me stay.
but for those who don't buy 2nd hand body, the D600 sounds like a pressure to Canon indeed.
I am sure if Canon simply drop the price on the 5D2, loyal Canon fans will stay. some people may never want more than 9 pt AF system and will satisfy with an old but still decent metering system.
Competition is always good, we should hope for other manufacture to pressure Canon more as well, at the end, it will benefit the end user.

there is also the Manfrotto 561 BHDV-1 that video guys love.....
but i worry about holding a front heavy camera/lens combo for shooting low light, not sure if it will actually stay still.
i myself am looking at a cheap altenative to the Manfrotto 561 BHDV-1, anyone? i don't have $300 to spend, and do'nt need carbon fiber

I am with you on this 24-100/120 F4 lens.
just a aftermarket version of the 24-105L and Nikkor 24-120 F4, which both retail @ $1k+
i don't mind sigma offering this lens too
i know some Sony Alpha guys are hoping for this lens too, so either Tamron or Sigma should make this lens for all mount, maybe except the 4/3

in my 5D1, i constantly use ISO1600, sometimes the extension 3200, run some NR and i am fine with it.
I would second the 5D2n as a direct competition to the D600, with let say just a 7D AF system and Metering, but that would upset a lot of 5D3 buyers, as the 7D system is very capable already
