Technical Support / 6D: reversing the communicate with this battery setting?

I have a non-Canon battery as a backup for my 6D. It's about 6 weeks old and other than not properly communicating its charge level, has previously worked fine in the camera.

Last week while on a family vacation and changing batteries late at night- I accidently selected the (paraphrasing) "ignore this battery?" prompt. Poof. The camera no longer plays nice with that specific battery.

I've been through the manual and can't find a way to reverse this setting. Anyone know how to do this?

Hey guys- can you point me towards a thread or online resource that might encapsulate what's available and what I should be considering or perhaps even give me a fifty-cent summary here?

I'm a new 6D owner- first camera I've ever had that didn't include a built-in flash. Most of my photography is outdoors- landscape and aerial but I also take the usual family photos. The 320EX is in the price range I'd prefer but is there any compelling reason to consider something higher up the food chain such as a 430EX2 or 600EX-RT? Thanks!

Vistek and Henry's don't yet show in stock (I haven't called to verify) but it appears that Aden may have them. FS says "later this week" and only 126 units chain-wide, BestBuy will not carry the 6D in Canada. Has anyone managed to physically obtain a camera this weekend?

This is a suggestion for discussion here- I’m not a pro photographer, and really- I don’t have a dog in this fight. But- for you pros out there struggling to make a living- here’s a photo need that isn’t being filled. As a bonus- it’s morning work and shouldn’t conflict with your wedding/event gigs.

In a true jack-of-all-hobbies, master-of-none vein- I’m a runner in addition to playing around with cameras. 5ks and half-marathons mostly, but I’d like to do at least one full marathon in my lifetime.

Anyway- these things, not so much the 5ks but definitely the half-Ms- are significant personal accomplishments after months of serious training. Racers collect teeshirts, buy pins, stay in hotels, travel on airplanes- all for the event. Many buy photos snapped of themselves by the “official” race photographers somewhere along the 21.1 or 42km courses. These courses are public roads or parks- open to all. The photos, as noted here last year in a different thread- are usually dreadful IF they happen to capture your bib number at all. And, worst of all- runners pay almost extortion prices for these terrible snap-shots.

I know that each race has an “official” photographer. But, since the courses are long and on public property- anyone has access to the event. If you’re a pro- why not stand somewhere at a convenient spot on the course with a teeshirt or sign-board on you and your assistant with your short, easily-remembered web address plainly visible to the runner? In addition- a meta-tag on your website should mention the race such that a search engine has no trouble pulling it up. Maybe go a little further and donate a couple thousand paper cups with your name on it for the aid (water) stations or pay the port-a-potty guy to put your poster on the side for the day.

Even if the photo hit rate is low- the Toronto Scotia typically has over 23,000 participants. Boston’s a little higher around 27,000 and there are 45,000 runners at the New York Marathon. There are many, many more races- in all cities and areas of the world.- Not just the major events- there are triathlons, "tough mudders", resolution races and the charity "run for the cure"-type events. Every metropolitan area has a dozen or two races over a year.  And, sure, there are already event photographers out there- but from a participant's perspective- they're not doing an adequate job and it should be a free market.

I’m not sure what dollar figure gets you out of bed in the morning, but maybe selling even only a couple dozen photos at $15 or $20 a pop is worth 2 or 3 hours of your time... Anyway, for your consideration.

Rebel XT with kit lens.

Does this photo still work with the sunset slightly left of centre? I was rushed and trying to keep the dock and boat in the frame while finding my footing on the uneven, rocky shoreline a bit tricky.

EOS Bodies / Go small or go home (T4i)

It's income tax refund time. If the 5D3 had come in $1K cheaper, I could have stretched for it, but with other places for a busy family to put its money- it ain't gonna happen this time around. So, to replace my Rebel XT I've decided to just get another Rebel for now.

Sure, I could buy a 60D, 7D or even a 5D2, but they're not the cameras I want, and- (let's be realistic) as a hobbyist with other interests- I can make do with a 650D. Maybe next year I can spin the Rebel down to one of my kids and get the camera I really want

With that decision essentially made- the question becomes- pull the trigger now on a T3i or wait for the upgrade? I'm getting conflicting information about a release date... the T3i rebates were extended, yet the literature for the new camera is apparently already out there.

Anybody have any good rumours, mysterious african safari pics, manuals on Amazon, leaked prototype photos? (Just doesn't have the same caché, does it?)

While I don't necessarily agree with the producer of that video, (and I think he was being somewhat facetious) -this is the future. I share this link in response to that guy berating "iTards" or the many comments here about unwanted/unneeded features such as GPS and WIFI in the next batch of DSLRs.

The point is- if Apple can include these features in a tiny little phone that sells for $169 under contract- then Canon better start placing them in larger, multi-thousand dollar cameras.

Yes, there will always be a need for pro gear with interchangeable lens. But, you top-end guys need the great unwashed masses to subsidize your toys. Canon, Nikon, et al, need their point and shoot markets to fund R&D. Joe Hobbyist (and I just got off a cruise ship loaded with 7Ds and 5D2s) wants his toy to do everything an iPhone can and more. At that price point there's no excuse for less.
