Amazon just dropped the price of the grip to 358.20. Seemingly random price, I know. But there it is for anyone going the amazon route. They also finally dropped the price on the gps receiver to 278.65.

It will probably take a couple of months.

Some people detest Amazon for how the MkIII was handled, and then others (such as myself) stay loyal. I've never had an issue with Amazon and will gladly wait a month or two for the grip if it means I get the first-hand tried and true excellent service from amazon that I've come to expect. I also don't see near the level of demand for the grip and can't see it being to difficult to acquire compared to the 5D body.

That's how it saves for me too, and I like it. The RAWs to the CF and the jpegs to SD. Having the processed HDR on both cards makes sorting through a couple hundred RAWs by name and jumping to the jpeg instantly tells me "the three before this made me" so I know what three pictures were bracketed to make the HDR in post myself.

I don't believe there are any mechanical downsides. If anything they should be positives as the mirror moves slower. I also have to add, the first silent shot I took actually startled me at how quiet it was. I had seen the youtube comparisons but they couldn't prepare me for the soft press shutter release and silent shooting. So drastically different from my 50D. (all in a good way, mind you.)

I've got one more on hand, you can reaaaaaally see the lack of the tripod on the right. I'll check my vault tomorrow for the others I tried out.

I went for a small nature hike the other day and was testing out the in camera HDR, and just giving the camera a first run-through for me. They were doing prescribed burns where I was and this is what I ended up with. I'm pretty pleased with the output. Two details of note, it was INCREDIBLY windy and I didn't have a tripod. Windy to the point where it was knocking me around.

Sorry to bring you into this, Bill, your post was just the most recent example I had of people taping their cameras. Thanks for everyones input, I wouldn't think the tape would dissuade a thief as I can't see them stumbling upon a camera they think they could lift and thinking "pfffft it's just an XTi..." Much like de-badging a car I like the sleek look of an unlabeled body so I was curious why others would have done so.

He isn't doing it to stop camera theft. He is just stupid.
Read the comments below the review.
Yeah, I know he isn't avoiding theft and I don't mean to put this poster on blast, but this is the post I mentioned in my original.
"2.  Cut 1/4" wide strips that will fit around the shiny black/red ring circumference on your black L lenses and protect them when they rest/touch on a table, etc and hide the red ring from potential thieves.  (Also, put a small piece over the 5D and Mark III logos on the body too!)"

I've seen and heard of people taping up their cameras to hide the brand or model before, but today alone on this forum I've seen it mentioned twice. This link http://www.ontakingpictures.com/2012/03/canon-5d-mark-iii-hands-on/ the first picture (attached) he has taped both of his cameras, and another response in another thread someone went as far as suggesting tape over the red ring.
So I ask you, do you cover up what kind of camera you're using? I just can't see it being a big deal in terms of stoping camera theft. Sure there's a handful of people out for a specific free camera but I'm under the impression that to most camera thieves any camera will do if it's easy.
If you do cover up the brand and/or model for other reasons, what are they?

I've not used it, and never intend to, but why SHOULD it work? You bought it knowing it worked for the 7D only at the time. I could maybe understand being this upset if it was a product for the 5D2, but it isn't and if you've looked at the WFT-E7A you will be able to see that building a product that will work across various bodies offers many concessions as it's no longer a grip, and very much looks like an afterthought.

They're slowly trickling out. I got my body shipping confirmation around 11am this morning and even with 1 day prime the expected delivery is Monday.

So disappointed with Amazon. I ordered at 7:00AM CST on March 2nd. Still not a word from them. Every attempt to contact CS has always resulted in the standard "The item has not been released yet". Do they take us for fools! The way Amazon has handled this has scarred me. I will never be using them again. I have a feeling that they severely underestimated the demand for this camera and ended up ordering a very limited supply. Hence they are only able to fulfill a very small portion of the pre-orders. I really wish I had used B&H or Adorama :-(
It seems to me that like two to three times as many kits were supplied than bodies. I also think Amazon got a LOT of orders in the first couple hours they went live. I ordered 2:30 CST on the 2nd and my body only shipped today around 11am. They're coming from Amazon. Slowly trickling out, but they're coming.

I just got my shipment email! The strange thing, though, is delivery estimate is Monday and I have Prime 1 day shipping. And it's shipping from about 220 miles from my house. I guess we'll see how this plays out.
