Software & Accessories / Re: Adobe to Stop Making Packaged Software
« on: May 07, 2013, 08:19:02 AM »
Adobe made this decision because a lot of people without a business don´t pay for the Photoshop software (warez).

and the cloud will change nothing about that.
microsoft and others tried a server side activation... changed nothing.

there will be pirated cloud versions. no question about that.

but adobe can make more money, a constant cash flow from cloud based software.
instead of releasing new versions every 18 month.
and that is a big deal, as it makes things more predictable (R&D cost for example).

Also for those thinking adobe will produce poor upgrades check out their youtube channel there are some awesome additions to CC only already like Camera Raw being a photoshop filter!

Silly Silly Lemming.  You don't think that is a coincidence.  The "De-Blur" was pulled from the CS 6 release... why?  To have a tasty carrot.

some people are just so naive.  ::)

as if adobe does anything because it loves the customers.
it´s all about maximizing profits.

and subscription price will be raised... and raised.. and raised.

and you have no other choice then to pay for it.
you can´t even decide to stick to your old software because CC will stop working if you don´t pay for the subscription.

oh and don´t get me started about the subscription cost in EUROPE... americans get it for cheap compared to us.

LR5 will be ... for now... available as standalone app.
but i guess they will change that next year.

Software & Accessories / Re: Alternatives to Adobe Software

i hope adobe is doing a "Kodak".

for RAW development i use PHOTO NINJA more and more anyway.
photo mechanic maybe can replace lightroom.
or i have too look at DxO apps.

for video there are plenty of alternative apps.
i use NUKE for example.

photoshop, well it´s hard for me to replace it.  :(
but i hope that maybe corel or another company will make a real alternative some day.
something that is not only close but BETTER then photoshop.
corel sure has the knowledge... look at corel painter.

i know i know that is much to ask... but not impossible.

years ago z-brush came out of nothing (nearly) and big autodesk was not able to catchup with it´s own mudbox software. z-brush still rules.

i really hope someone takes the opportunity and creates something new and a real competition to photoshop. it sure will not happen overnight.

i suggest you do a bit of reading about RAW files.

RAW files need to be EDITED to look good.
it´s no suprise an unedited RAW will look flat and colorless.

there are a few good books and tutorial videos out about RAW editing.

well no camera will help you with that.

Oh and Sigma lenses getting so much better, if Sigma makes a 24mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8 as rumored then man, where is the future for Canon

well i wonder how you guys survive in the real world.   8)

you can be disappointed with canon but hell.. please do a reality check from time to time.

panasonic nearly sold the camera biz last year and is still struggling.
so the real question is.... for how long will panasonic keep making cameras?

"We shall release no camera before it's time."

As much as I'd like a new toy to drool over, I'd rather wait and have significant improvements in the next generation.  My 7D is still as good today as it was when I bought it and it will still be as good next year.

Nikon seems in no hurry to replace the D300S, which looks like a dinosaur next to the 7D and despite what you read on this forum, Canon's current 18 mp sensor can still hold its own against the newer sensors. If they need until next year to perfect the next generation, that's just the way it is.

I'm a little doubtful about that "2014 will be the year for high-end DSLR cameras from Canon" statement, though. It seems too early in the cycle for a 1DX or 5DIII replacement. The only gap in the line-up might be a high megapixel monster. Can't see what else they could do.

high end would mean the best in the FF sector.. the high megapixel one.

and the best in APS-C sector, the 7D MK2.

the 12-24 or 14-24 is a lens i desperately waiting for.

for me it does not even have to be f2.8.
it only has to be very sharp from center to corners with well controlled distortions.

I want to shoot wildlife and I have around $10000

well if you ask such questions and have so much money to spend.... at least get a good book about photography too....  ::)

a book that explains focal length and such basic stuff...

sharpness is a result of a properly focused image.

if the lens does not deliver the optical sharpness, no focusing will solve that.

It's nice of Sigma to actually deliver the USB dock, but the fact is Sigma should tighten up its QC process so we don't NEED to use the dock.

well canon should be the first then to make lenses that need no AFMA.  ::)

Technical Support / Re: 10 Stop ND Filter - Metering
« on: May 03, 2013, 01:24:52 PM »
As Mt. Spokane pointed out in another thread, there's more to a filter than the glass. B+W use brass mount rings which are less likely to bind up than the aluminum rings most other brands use - since I often stack a CPL on an ND, not getting my filters stuck together is an important consideration for me.

i must be a lucky guy.. maybe i should play lotto.

in all the years (20+) i never had a stuck filter.
i have no problems with aluminium filters.

be carefull when you screw them on, don´t use force, unscrew when you don´t use them.

Lighting / Re: 3rd party flashes not working with 6D
« on: May 02, 2013, 10:28:36 AM »
This is why.

Not very helpful, but true.

The money spent on cheapies is wasted as the third party guns have no resale value, and you'll end up buying the canons anyway.

no you don´t.... if you know what you buy.

first this is a manual flash.
why should one pay for ETTL and stuff if all he needs is a manual flash?

second this is a cheap flash that works just fine and is more powerfull then the 430 EX II.
and even if it breaks after 4 years... well i can buy 4 YN-560 II for the money of one 430 EX II.

Lighting / Re: 3rd party flashes not working with 6D
« on: May 02, 2013, 09:49:40 AM »
the 560 has just a middle pin connector. there is not much needed to be compatible.
sure not a firmware flash. this is a manual flash unit.

the flash should work with the 6D.
