Everyone is doing Beta releases these days... here is a somewhat old, but still relevant, article

as long as people blindly preorder products... why should companys change their way of releasing stuff?

i don´t preorder anymore and i don´t buy new software or hardware that is not out in the wild for a few month. that served me well for example as intel released the sandy bridge mainboards (sata bug).

i don´t have the time or the nerve to fumble around with beta products an wait until major bugs are fixed.

of course that a product is out for say 4-6 month does not mean it´s perfect or bug free... but at least you have an overview over how well it works and major flaws should be exploited by then.

Is there any benefit to using the Adobe RGB profile with it's expanded color gamut as the ICC profile when I
print using my Canon Pro 9000 MKII?

that sounds as if you want to use Adobe RGB as a PRINTER profile.
as astro wrote, that is a NO GO.. don´t do it.

as advised use a matching profile for your printer and paper.

Under the One Sony plan, the company is going to "focus on digital imaging, gaming and mobile for growth, until those three make up 70 percent of its total sales in 2014." (source, emphasis added) so we can expect the company to push forward in the digital imaging arena with competitive products.

question is.. focus on NEX or ALPHA?

will sony spend R&D on a sector (alpha) it will be very hard for them to compete?
they have to work on the lens lineup. im not sure that the results will justifie it.

but then... what do i know.  ;)
i see only my surrounding and i don´t know a single person with a sony alpha.

Does anybody know what could be the price of the componets that make up a C500 that has a price of $35000?

Thank you very much!

same that makes ARRI cost 60k-120k i guess...

I seriously HOPE they keep the megapixels down. High Megapixels = bad video because of the downscaling that is needed..

well that is not true, if you use pixel binning.
and 18 MP would not be the optimum for 4k.

Sony is a bigger company than Canon

last time i checked canon had more employees then sony.

so i wonder what are your referring too when you say bigger?

sony total equity : US$ 30.74 billion

canon total equity: US$ 34 billion

in total assets sony is bigger yes... for what it´s worth when you make loss year after year.
we will see what is left after the consolidation.

the wealthy video crowd will be happy.

i would only wish canon had something exciting for us still shooters too.

don´t get me wrong the 5D MK3 is a nice upgrade from the 5D MK2.
but to be honest it´s nothing that gets me overly excited.

i don´t really need the better high iso performance and for my studio or landscape shots the 5D MK2 autofocus is good enough. i mayb buy the 5D MK3 at the end of the year anyway.. if there is no 5X. ;)

Lenses / Re: Which Canon lenses DON'T need an update?
« on: April 11, 2012, 06:09:13 AM »
one of my favorite lenses to use is my 135mm F/2L. Not sure why no one mentioned that, but I think it is one of the best lenses they make.

maybe because some think it could benefit from IS.
some people want IS in any lens.

70-200mm f4 USM IS
70-200mm f2.8 USM II IS
300mm 2.8 USM IS II
400mm f/2.8 USM IS II

i think most older lenses could be improved with better coatings.
some could need more aperture blades or circular blades for better bokeh.

the mentioned 85mm f1.8 is an example.

that it is a good lens does not mean it could not be better with todays technology/materials.

sony has reported a net loss of 6.4 billion ..  sony is not hungry.. sony is STARVING.

i would not buy into sony camera gear.. who knows how long they will build it.

476
.... but i do remember someone wrote sony is a bigger company then canon and has more money for R&D.

he wrote canon had to fear sony, because sony has so much more money to spend on developing cameras.

well... he was obviously wrong and now look at this:

Kazuo Hirai, who took over as Sony's CEO this month, has said he is prepared to take "painful steps" to revive the company, insisting he would not hesitate to scale back or withdraw from businesses he deemed uncompetitive. He will lay out his revival strategy in more detail at a briefing scheduled for Thursday.

im curious what that means for sonys high-end camera business...

What's your input?
Money isn't an issue since I've been saving for some time.

if you can´t figure that out yourself.. depending on your needs, then maybe a 60D or 7D is enough for you?!

If a laser can do that kind of damage to a sensor, I wonder what it could do to an eyeball!

when your close enough your eyeball is toast.

laser and photographer don´t go well.... ;)
