EOS Bodies - For Stills / External Live View Monitor for Canon 60D
« on: March 31, 2013, 04:58:12 PM »
What is your experience using an external live view monitor for Canon 60D? or, another Canon body

I just want a bigger view. I'm planning on some macro photography later in the Spring, and would prefer an external monitor for live view.

Can I use a laptop that has an hdmi input and see the image on the screen?

Anyway to do this with an ipad 3?

any specific monitor-only brands to review?

Don't need remote control or capture

Thx

Third Party Manufacturers / Sony RX-100 Samples

I'm liking the images so far from the Sony Rx-100. This image was taken Sunday afternoon at the San Jose Municipal  Rose Garden.

I'm looking for a compact street shooter with crazy fast auto focus and would like to hear your real-world suggestions.

In my kit today, I have a G11, D60 and a Mamiya 7

With a crazy fast focus on a compact body, there are some of the other filters that will guide me:

-excellent IQ (for the size)
- articulated screen
- sharp lens/sharp lens availability
-SD card
-ability to use an intervalomiter
-Macro
-Short minimum focus on wide/normal
-fixed lens ok
-shirt pocketable
-RAW

Thinking maybe the Sony Rx100, (RX1 if I win in Vegas) don't know enough about the Canon Mirror

Software & Accessories / Which Pelican case?
« on: July 01, 2012, 01:18:57 PM »
Amazon delivered the Pelican 1400 and without opening the box, it looks to be too small.

Which size case should I get for 1 dslr body and 3 lenses, 1 mamiya 7 body and 1 lens, ipad, cable/battery/small gizmos

Lenses / ND Filters for Southwest Red Rock?
« on: June 17, 2012, 07:32:23 PM »
I saw the other thread about landscape filters.

What would the forum suggest when shooting the red rock from Valley of the Fire outside of Vegas, Antelope Canyon, both upper and lower, Monument Valley, various places around Moab, and probably some Death Valley and Mono Lake. Widest is a 10-20 zoom, med tele is 24-85, and 70-200 tele

In Pogue's NYT article, he writes about how good his pocket Canon is, but reports he will be switching in a couple of weeks when a new camera is introduced, and it won't be a Canon

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 60d AEB steps?
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:27:48 PM »
I've read the manual (really), have a couple of d60 books, and yet I haven't been able to figure out AEB on the D60.

I am coming from a g11, and with that, AEB was a snap.

I'd appreciate it if someone could detail the steps necessary to set-up AEB for +1/-1 and one press of the shutter

Thanks

Lenses / Any Active Magic Lantern Users?
« on: April 06, 2012, 01:57:38 PM »
I'm only just learning about Magic Lantern. Looks interesting to me because it says it will give 60d owners the ability to increase +/- brackerting

any other sites besides this which has clear info?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Why no low ISO DSLRs?
« on: March 30, 2012, 03:51:07 PM »
In my film days I used to shoot Kodachrome 25 or 64, and low ISO Kodacolor, mostly landscapes. I liked the fine detail.

The threads always talk about high ISO and low noise, but, what about low ISO and no noise? I, and, probably others, are willing to use a tripod and shoot at low ISO.

But, then, my understanding of digital vs film is just beginning. I use a G11 and a 60D

Lenses / Walk around lens suggestion
« on: March 25, 2012, 02:07:52 PM »
Have a 60d. Looking for hands-on recommendation for a walk around lens.

Ideally, it would be 14-200, a little more or a little less, wide to ?zoom. Double ideally, it would be 2.8, but I think I would asking too much. Thx

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Why don't DSLRs go low ? ASA 25 equivalent
« on: March 05, 2012, 05:00:26 PM »
I'm getting ready to move from film to DSLR. I've always enjoyed shooting ASA 25, ASA 64 film/slides, but, I'm not finding low ASA equivalents in the DSLR world.

It seems all the talk/reviews is about high ISO and noise performance.

What am I not getting?

I shoot mostly on tripods
