Lighting / How to Extend Flash Performance (Life on Site)
« on: September 07, 2014, 10:58:33 PM »
Hello fellow CR folks!

I have been wondering if there is any way to extend the life of my flash while I'm at an event.

The main issue is during the reception. I am always very selective in the shots I take, but when I fire the flash, I expect it go. As the night goes on, the flash begins to hate me more and more. Primary flash heads are the 600EX-RT's if that makes any difference at all.

Thank you for any advice you have.

Wedding Photography / Post Your Best Wedding Photos
« on: August 08, 2014, 06:29:06 PM »
Let's kick things off with some of our best and favorite wedding pics we've taken!

Site Information / Wedding Section
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:28:29 PM »
With all of the new board options booming, I have also been wondering about a wedding section within the "image and video galleries" portion of the forum. I shoot at least one wedding every week during busy season, and know that I have some pictures that would help inspire the newer wedding photographers. In the same regard, I can get a bit repetitive and occasionally need some inspiration from the other pros.

We can discuss technique as needed, but mainly use it as a flow of inspiration from photogs around the world.

As giant of an industry as it is, why not have a wedding photography section?

Software & Accessories / {Resolved} Please be a simple fix...
« on: April 03, 2014, 05:40:50 PM »
I really don't want to burn through favors asking for help... again, but here's the skinny.

My wife and I shot a wedding together last Sunday, and as is customary, I synced the time on the four cameras, but low-and-behold I synced one of the 5D3's one hour off.

Is there ANY way to revert the time back on the one camera? I know how to do it one pic at a time, but we're talking about roughly 800 pics.

I am working with LR and PS, and have the line of Canon DPP, etc up as well if that is of any help.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Software & Accessories / PS and LR, does anyone use both?
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:54:47 PM »
I have 0 experience with Lightroom and am trying to figure out if I should incorporate it into my workflow. I have always edited in Bridge/PS, but are there any benefits to LR at this point?

Thank you greatly for your response!

Lenses / Loosey Goosey Lens Hood
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:13:50 PM »
I recently got a steal on a used 24mm 1.4L II. As you probably suspected by now, the lens hood shakes. It doesn't rotate after it 'clicks', but it definitely moves around as I move the camera and is not firm like the other lenses. I was offered a full refund, but the glass is flawless and I am hoping there is some way to jerry-rig the thing so that the public doesn't see the rigging, but it still works as it should.

I am going to continue working on it, but I appreciate any ideas. Surly among the photogs here, we can brainstorm a solution.

Thank you for your ideas,

Technical Support / Adobe PS, Image Will Not Show in Raw
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:24:42 PM »
Here's something *new*, for me at least.

Working with .CR2s in Camera Raw 6.7, Adobe PS CS5. I can pull an image into Camera Raw, however, the framework of tools, tabs, etc. shows, but there is no image in the box.

Now for the weird part; if I take the luminance to 0 everything returns to normal.
If it has any luminance at all, the image will not show up.
If I make the image show by taking the luminance to 0, then try to adjust anything, the image just sits there frozen, but the tabs can be moved around to no avail.

I'm stumped. I've used this program nearly every day for several years and this happens out of the blue.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Thank you all!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Wedding Bloopers; Grab Your Popcorn!
« on: June 30, 2013, 12:09:08 AM »
So, I had quite the experience at a wedding today and thought I would share to see if anyone else has suffered from a wedding blooper on a greater or lesser scale.

My wife and I had just arrived at the church and were ready to go to work. The bride was ready to get going so I volunteered to take the dress shot on the FF w/ the 17-40L, (as I do for essentially every wedding). The bride, who is also a photographer, mentioned that she found a great place for the dress shot. It was in a mid-size bathroom, but the room had a beautiful window with some stain glass and an ornate mirror and did look like a fine place for the picture. I was having a hard time finding a place to hang the dress and opted to place the hook  between the ceiling tiles and the trim...

CRASH!!! The ENTIRE ceiling came down!!! There was dust everywhere and needless to say it was rather hard to breathe in or around the room. I spoke with the pastor who was incredibly nice and forgiving and he said they are in the middle of remodeling that bathroom anyway. I'm sending him a check on Monday though, if nothing else to make me feel better. The wedding session ended up being a complete success despite how it began, (thank goodness).

So, am I alone or is there anyone else out there with a wedding blooper?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Just Dropped my 17-40L...

I was shooting a bridal after a wedding this afternoon and dropped my UWA about 4 feet onto the concrete.
Good thing these are built like tanks.  ;)

Lighting / Radio Triggering-- 600ex-rt + 430exii + ??????
« on: June 14, 2013, 04:38:09 PM »
Hello all,

I have the 600ex-rt and 430ex ii and was wanting to begin using them for radio triggering. I shoot a 5Dii and 60D.
BEST option: something fairly inexpensive, and capable of transmitting ~80ft
I've done a great deal of research online but have not yet found someone who knows what their talking about or can't help but only represent 'their brand' of XYZ.

Any thoughts?

Hello all,

I'm trying to find anyone who knows anything about producing several indoor and outdoor panoramas for a Dude Ranch here in Tulsa. I know how to create them in photoshop CS5, however, I have no clue when it comes to how to create a flash, java, silverlight, etc file to store them in so they can put the file on their website. The idea is that they can have a 360 degree view of Cabin 1, 2, etc.

Does anyone know of a method of doing this before I take the gig? I'll likely just use the 17-40 (or 16-35 ii if I upgrade by then) on a 5Dii, though I'll be renting the 8-15 fisheye for a fun wedding in early June and can toy with that if it is recommended.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

EOS Bodies - For Stills / My 5Dii No Longer Downloads (Resolved)
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:55:23 PM »
Hey y'all,

The title says most of it. My 5Dii went from downloading just fine, everyday, no problem, to suddenly not downloading.

When I plug it into the computer, it connects and gives me the option to download the files via Bridge. After I click "Get Photos", the red indicator light on the back of the cam lights up all dazzly, like it's supposed to, but then it goes into "blinky mode" and Bridge continues to tell me, "Connecting to device... Please wait.".

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

Additional info if needed,
-CF: Kingston 32 Ultimate 266X
-PS: CS5

No other changes have occurred apart from recently purchasing a new CF which I plugged in for one session, but haven't used since. Would that have anything to do with it, should I re-format my older one again after I get these pics off?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5Dii auto iso stuck on 400.
« on: November 18, 2012, 11:41:10 AM »
Well, I think the title says it all. The auto iso on my 5Dii is stuck on 400, however, this is only on manual mode and thus my custom settings as well.

Has anyone had this experience or know of a fix, or should I send it in to Canon?

Thank you all greatly,

EOS Bodies - For Stills / DUST!!!!!!! WHAT TO DO!?!?!? (resolved)
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:44:24 PM »
I am doing my best to keep my cool. I have dust in the viewfinder, at least I think that is where the beast lay. I didn't notice it until I was wiping down my camera with a lens cloth and decided to wipe the dust off of the viewfinder glass. Now everytime I look into the viewfinder I can see two spots, one; a j-looking object next to the center focus point, and two; a spot just a bit lower and to the right. The dust doesn't seem to affect the pictures what-so-ever, but I am super OCD about these things and besides that, the specks are simply annoying. I have three shoots in the next four days so I would LOVE it if you all had some advice.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It is on/in my 5DII with a 17-40L that has a filter, (if that makes any difference). Also, I've been shooting all day and this has not come up until the moment I wiped off the viewfinder...  :'(

Lenses / Any Wedding Lens Advice?
« on: September 09, 2012, 10:35:18 PM »
So, my wife and I have three weddings right at the start of 2013, but here's the kicker; I think we're lacking a little glass.

We have the following
5DII, 60D, 17-40L, 35L, 50 1.4, and a 430ex ii. We also have a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 which I am not the biggest fan of and will be selling soon. We would like to keep our purchase at a max of ~2K and don't mind buying new, refurbed, or used (from a quality seller).

What do you all think? I strongly believe that this forum is an invaluable resource for photographers who are beginning their business and thank you all in advance for your support.
