EOS Bodies / Suggested upgrade path?
« on: October 17, 2012, 10:25:02 PM »
Current kit consists of 450D, Nifty 50, 2 Old Sigma lenses pre digital,  kit 18-55 and Yunguno 565ex.

I do family portraits and christmas cards for friends etc, as well as an wedding as 2nd shooter.  I've done 6 this year.

Looking at the 6D as my next body as with event photography I totally see the limits of the 450 and need better High Iso performance.

So would it be alright to do Body and then down the road Tamron 24-70 since its half the cost of Canon 24-70L2 I know glass is a  big limiting factor in image quality but if I could only afford 1 big purchase a year what would you choose?  Camera then glass or Glass and then camera.

I say bring on dual SD slots, sure top speed may not be "as Fast" but I can but 100 gig worth of cars for half the price of 1 64 gig CF.... and they take up less space, which mean Canon can use that space for processors or what ever they heck they want to make the camera lighter or what ever..

Hearing people complaining about lack of CF is almost as bad as people complaining that the ancient 30pin connect went bye bye on the Iphone.

So it looks to me like the 6 D has the widest spread out of the 3 which could be the most useful,  just depends I guess.

I don't usually mind a bit of a wait from announcement until release but this seems to long, made worse by the fact Nikon had theirs on shelfs the next week, and Apple releases their products within 2 weeks of announcements.   Does announcing 4 months before availability save a business that much money?

O and I can't wait to read some reviews

Lenses / 6D kit lens 24-105 F4L or 24-70Mark 1
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:19:54 PM »
Let me say I know the Mark 2 is better in every way then the Mark1 but I have to scrape together money for the 6D body let alone a 2K lens.  So I'd debating weather I buy the 6D kit or just body and a 24-70mk 1

If it helps people answer... I don't' pixel peep or anything crazy, I'm in the group that if 90% of the population who are not photogs think it looks good then that's all I need.

I'm in the same boat as you, however I don't have as many lenses.  Really other than cost of lenses and the body it will do everything better than our 450's do.  I know people were wanting more out of the 6D but honestly, I'll probably get it because it will do everything I want it to do, better AF, FPS, image quality, iso performance, in camera features, wifi, semi metal body and weather proofing.

I do mostly landscape/family portraits and a few weddings a year so this will fit my bill perfectly.   The other thing I'll buy with it is a grip.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon Announces the Canon EOS 6D DSLR
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:29:27 PM »
I guess I'm one I the few saps who like this camera.  Sure I'd like 45 pt AF but for the last 3 years I've been center point only in my 450D.  And the high/low iso performance will blow it away.  4.5 fps hmmm could be 5d2 slow but it's not. And. SD cards. Thank you that there will save me 100 or more dollars in new cards. Everyone bent on CF needs go get a life.   Plastic body sounds good to me saves weight and plastics are used in guns etc.  might take me about a year to save the money but this will be my next body

EOS Bodies / 6D question
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:27:24 PM »
Based on the worlds fastest growing thread I thought this question would get lost in the 26 pages......

1/4000sec shutter speed   I saw some complain that its not nearly fast enough.

I currently own a 450D and that is my max and I can't even think of the times I've gotten that high.  Is it really a major draw back?

I thought I saw 1/180 for max flash shutter speed or something like that... thats only for a flash that does not feature high speed sync correct?   My 450D is 1/200 max for a slow flash.

Third and final question....   F2.8 Center point how does that compare to other EOS models?    Most zoom L glass is only 2.8 fast anyway so is that so bad?  and if you use a faster lens it just cant guarantee the accuracy of the focus?  Dont really care how many points as I don't do much sports and always use center point.

Thanks for the feed back, I've been shooting for a few years but still obviously have lots to learn from a technical aspect.  And would like a camera that will allow me room to grow.   I do currently 60% portrait type shots of kids, family   20% landscape although that use to be 90% and 20% weddings  as a second shooter for a buddy.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Specs Leaked?
« on: September 14, 2012, 03:57:35 PM »
Sorry I didn't read all 14 pages but is the auto focus not the biggest let down with these specs?

F2.8 center point.  Is that terrible I know most canon zooms are no faster than that.  But 11 pts? Seems sort of week when comparing to the D600.

I am however optimistic about the sensor that alone could be worth the upgrade otherwise I may jump on a 5D2

It won't surprise me if it's got a similar body construction to that of the 60D. If the plastic's good enough for glocks...

Very good point taperoo2k.  Look at other industries and there are plastics used in all sorts of heavy duty applications like numerous guns and if it's good enough for guns it should be fine for a camera. Of course depending on the strength.

Nice shots Chris

I though it was maybe the lens rental review but they had numbers for each focal length and I thought the Tamron fell just shy of the new lens.   Did anyone else see this considering the price point could be tempting for someone waiting for the 6D. Or am I way off because I for sure want the best.

It's amazing how a few months ago I pined for the now old version of the 24-70 and question if it would be worth thee money.

according to Nikon Rumors the D600 is coming in at 2,700 about double the predicted price.... weather that is true or not we'll see.

In the past how long has it taken bodies to make it to the refurb market or CLP program?   I have no money saved, could possibly save 2K by next Christmas but would obviously love to save as much money as possible and I don't care about new or refurb.

So what your telling me is there is no reason why we actually need different sensors other than marketing purposes.  Cause like I said before with old camera's the features not sensors is what made them unique.

So even though FF sensors cost more, if they sold 100K rebel FF's a year I think you could spread R&D costs around and prob make a profit.

How many MP equivalent would a traditional 35mm film equal out to in print size.
