EOS Bodies / Re: Plan to get a 5D3 for $1

This may sound like a crazy idea but.....how about getting a part time job, and then go buy one for yourself?

::)  Yea..... sounds good I know I left out the part about me that said I work full time for Chase, I have a family with Kids and I do some side weddings but that got me only about 600 this year as a second shooter.... sure better than most but that money doesn't go to more gear unfortunately

Look I'm not sure the exact way to run it etc, however you always see on the news some guy who got 1,500 worth of stuff stolen so they started a fun and due to internet giving that guy now has 200,000 in a week.     So why not do something similar for my photography gear.

So I just saw another members signature joking about a kind soul who would donate a 5D3 that good Karma would be upon them etc.

Now what if you did a first come first serve list of 3500 people.  Now in this list Everyone donates a dollar to the "raffle"  because obviously the cost would be 3,500 if everyone gave each other a dollar and it would wash out but if it were designed like a weekly drawing, you would have a change at a new camera for 1 dollar with fairly low odds.  I know I"d be willing to take that risk every week for a year.

Not sure how many others would be on board but if you can think of a good way to administer it.... unsure if pay pal is a safe enough place to hold those funds in escrow while we do this?

EOS Bodies / Re: How often do you go through a body? Why do you upgrade?

Marius I feel the same way, but I'm using a 450D and if I'm not outside or all the windows in my house are open at peak daylight times like yesterday for Halloween, it gets dark where I live early this time of year and so just to get an okay shot I'm at max iso at 1/60 but when taking pics of little kids running around its sort of a challenge to not get blur.  Which tells me I've maxed out my camera's ability.    I hate shooting flash.

so 6D being able to shoot ISO 6400 or so will give me more options than 1600 max.

A lot of non official tests seem to think that its a pretty capable camera, makes me excited.

Its pretty easy to find, here is a pop photography article I found from 2008 just a few moments ago... monitors havn't changed much since thing so this may give you a good starting point or you can find something on the used market... took 30 seconds to find this did I mention?

Current kit consists of 450D, Nifty 50, 2 Old Sigma lenses pre digital,  kit 18-55 and Yunguno 565ex.

I do family portraits and christmas cards for friends etc, as well as an wedding as 2nd shooter.  I've done 6 this year.

Looking at the 6D as my next body as with event photography I totally see the limits of the 450 and need better High Iso performance.

So would it be alright to do Body and then down the road Tamron 24-70 since its half the cost of Canon 24-70L2 I know glass is a  big limiting factor in image quality but if I could only afford 1 big purchase a year what would you choose?  Camera then glass or Glass and then camera.

Glass, then camera. Lens prices creep up, body prices creep down...

If you really value money and intend to do photography for a very long time, I suggest investing on a "system" lens which for our part is Canon unless you're fine with a fully manual lens.  Canon bodies does not and will not support third party lenses.

What do you mean that Canon bodies do not support 3rd party lenses?  I know they will work, so is it a mater of  preinstalled CA adjustments?

The way the 5D2 kit is selling (and get them while you can) I'd go for one of those. Get your body and sweet glass all at the same time. Have you considered the CLP?

CLP is a sweat deal and I'd have no problem getting one through them, however as capable as I know the 5D2 is, I'm just hung up on the idea of buying a 2008 camera, just like I'd hate to buy a 2008 car when I can have a 2012.... retail it doesn't make alot of sense however if I can't wait CLP is a great way to make it happen have save lots of money.

I say bring on dual SD slots, sure top speed may not be "as Fast" but I can but 100 gig worth of cars for half the price of 1 64 gig CF.... and they take up less space, which mean Canon can use that space for processors or what ever they heck they want to make the camera lighter or what ever..

Hearing people complaining about lack of CF is almost as bad as people complaining that the ancient 30pin connect went bye bye on the Iphone.

So it looks to me like the 6 D has the widest spread out of the 3 which could be the most useful,  just depends I guess.

I don't usually mind a bit of a wait from announcement until release but this seems to long, made worse by the fact Nikon had theirs on shelfs the next week, and Apple releases their products within 2 weeks of announcements.   Does announcing 4 months before availability save a business that much money?

O and I can't wait to read some reviews

Lenses / 6D kit lens 24-105 F4L or 24-70Mark 1
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:19:54 PM »
Let me say I know the Mark 2 is better in every way then the Mark1 but I have to scrape together money for the 6D body let alone a 2K lens.  So I'd debating weather I buy the 6D kit or just body and a 24-70mk 1

If it helps people answer... I don't' pixel peep or anything crazy, I'm in the group that if 90% of the population who are not photogs think it looks good then that's all I need.

I'm in the same boat as you, however I don't have as many lenses.  Really other than cost of lenses and the body it will do everything better than our 450's do.  I know people were wanting more out of the 6D but honestly, I'll probably get it because it will do everything I want it to do, better AF, FPS, image quality, iso performance, in camera features, wifi, semi metal body and weather proofing.

I do mostly landscape/family portraits and a few weddings a year so this will fit my bill perfectly.   The other thing I'll buy with it is a grip.
