Lenses / Re: Would Canon produce new 28/1.8?
« on: May 31, 2012, 02:49:55 PM »
similar to nikon's new 28/1.8G?

Yeah, but they will add IS and charge $1299 for it.

32
Why would someone buy one of these when they could get the canon 28 f1.8 for $300 cheaper??

Because of the IS? Puh-lease. I'd rather have the 1.8!

Canon has been hitting the pipe for far too long.

33
I've been shooting motion for over thirty years, and have NEVER felt the need for IS. For me, f/1.8 :) would have been more useful than IS :(. I think I'll pass.

Exactly, these lenses should be f/1.8 lenses for the price Canon is trying to charge.  $850 for a 24mm 2.8 prime is ridiculous. It's not like it's a macro lens.

34
Two better options at a much better value is either the Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS, or Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 VC.

In video mode these new primes will not have any optical advantages over the mentioned zooms. The only advantage is being more portable. Stupid high price for lenses nobody asked for.

Canon 24mm & 28mm 2.8 IS = $1650

Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 VC = $1299

Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS = $1099

35mm F2
50mm 1.8 ll

Both need better build quality, better AF and 7 circular aperture blades.

Nikon's new 50mm 1.8G lens is fantastic and still pretty inexpensive.

36
I wouldn't hesitate to switch over to Nikon if this rumor turns out to be true. This camera paired with the 50mm 1.4G lens would be an amazing photography tool for under $2k. I'm getting way too excited over this rumor. This would be the smartest move that Nikon ever made. I mean how would Canon react to this rumored inexpensive Full-Frame if it actually became a real product?

I wonder if production has even started or if they'll be showing off prototypes like they did with the yet elusive 24&28 2.8 I.S..

Those 24/28mm 2.8 lenses are way too expensive.  Why would someone choose those two lenses that cost $800 each when you can get the 17-55mm 2.8 IS, or Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 OS for cheaper?

Will Canon ever release a nice inexpensive 30mm 1.8 for APS-C DSLR's?  The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is the best option we have, but it's not a great lens optically.  I don't understand Canon.

Why a 40mm lens?   Those of us that use crop sensor cameras could really use an inexpensive 30mm 1.8 standard lens.  I swear a bunch of Monkeys are running Canon these days.

The Sony FS700 is going to find a lot of happy homes, especially if the metabones adapter works for it. 300FPS slow-motion at 1080p, built in ND filters, future 4k upgrade, great low-light ability, $8,000 price tag. How can the C300 compete with the new Sony FS700 at twice the price with less features?

The C300 can't even do 1080 60p for christsakes.

Well people are buying the C300 so it can't be all that bad, can it?

Maybe the people that want to use the C300 don't care about 1080/60p or 4K upgrades?

Maybe the people that want to use the C300 see more in it for what they do than they do in the FS700?

And just maybe evaluating the worth of these cameras is not something that is easily done by looking at a pair of spec sheets and saying "this one has more bells and whistles and is more shiny, so therefore is better."

Why don't you write up a review of when you've used both the FS700 and C300 and put it on youtube or vimeo so that we can see how you demonstrate the superiority of one over the other?

Prove to me how the C300 isn't overpriced compared to the FS700.

I don't see why people would think this would be in the same price range as the 5D Mark lll. It's probably going to cost the same as a C300. Canon does not want to give quality video to the likes of us poor folk.

22 MP is overkill on a APS-C sensor. We need better low-light capabilities, not worse.

I'm expecting clean images at 1600 and useable images up to 3200.

Completely - easily - doable with the 7D right now.

Video is not clean at ISO 1600.  3200 looks awful.

ISO as clean as the 5D3 & 1D4

5D Mark lll not possible, but comparable to the 1D Mark lV is more realistic. The 1D Mark lV is only about 1 step better in ISO performance than the 7D, so I don't see why Canon couldn't improve the ISO performance by 1 stop on the 7D Mark ll with current sensor and processing improvements.

The noise was my major gripe with 7D.

I'm expecting clean images at 1600 and useable images up to 3200.
