EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D3 Firmware upgrade, missing step...
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:31:35 AM »
Updated with no issues leaving the CF in camera while loading the update from the SD card.

Other than some uncertanity over the firmware filesize not exactly matching Canons description of the file, updating was a breese.
Same here.  No issues during upgrade.  I left my CF card in the camera and the firmware was loaded in an SD card.

Instructions are in the .dmg file after you decompress it.  It's a pdf.

Software & Accessories / Re: Polarizing filter in wedding photography
« on: April 12, 2012, 07:00:19 PM »
I use a circular polarizer mostly for shots close to water to eliminate glare/reflection.  From what I've read, the CPL is best to use at noon.  That's when you get the best effect.  Otherwise you might get some vignetting.
UV filter I use only for protection along with the lens hood.
Ah, and I don't use my CPL with the lens hood because then it makes it harder to reach the filter inside the hood and rotate it to get the effect I want.
ND filters...I recently bought a Cokin Grad ND filter kit.  Haven't really shot anything with it yet.  More than likely I'll be using it for taking pictures of sunsets/sunrises.
My friend uses a grad ND filter along with his flashes and softboxes for strobing.

Awesome pictures!
Did you use a variable or grad ND filter for #3?
Me and my friends want to a beach in Jupiter, Fl where you have limestones at the beach and rocks and stuff to take pictures of.

Thank you!  Yes, I used a grad ND filter for that shot.  And shortly after it, a huge wave came crashing over the rocks...I barely avoided falling on my butt as I grabbed my tripod and scrambled back  ;D

That's awesome!  Sometimes you gotta risk your life to get a good shot. lol

I've only used Trascend. Got 2 32gb sdhc class 10 cards and a 32gb cf card. No problems so far.

Awesome picture!
I'm going to O'ahu in a couple of weeks and would love to go there and walk the stairs but the wikipedia link says that they are closed to the public.  :'(

Thanks.  Yeah, the map would be great.
I'm very cautious wherever I go since I'm from South America and down there you have to be careful everywhere.

Sweet!  Thanks very much!  Yes, I'll rent a car for sure to be able to drive all over the island.
The only problem that I see is that I'll only have 2 days for leisure.
I'm mostly looking to get some shots of volcanoes, beaches, sunsets.
Oh, and more than likely I'll be traveling by myself.  Is it safe to go hiking by myself?
Thanks again.

So I'm going to Honolulu on a business trip for 3 days but I will be staying 2 extra days for my own leisure.  I'm taking my camera gear with me and would like to know the places that I must go to get good pictures.  Your suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

When I'm not wearing my regular glasses I wear my polarized sunglasses even when I'm shooting pics.  Guess it would be best practice for me to wear my regular glasses when taking pictures.  I have not looked at the LCD screen on my 5dM3 with my sunglasses on yet but I will give it a try and see what happens.
