Lighting / The Flash Bracket? Do they really matter anymore?
« on: June 06, 2012, 10:53:54 AM »
I was talking to a fellow photographer who works weddings all the time. We were discussing on-camera flash and he spoke of always using a flash bracket for on camera.

I've seen them before, those large hulking contraptions that some photogs carry around on a wedding. Is it really necessary though anymore? I think one of those would slow me down but if the benefits are really worth the hassle i'd might look into it.

Supposedly, it will remove the horrid side-shadow when shot in portrait orientation but why not just use a TTL cable and hold the flash in proper orientation rather than carry a bulky and heavy bracket? Or just bounce?

Dunno, It was interesting enough to want some opinions on brackets.

We've all made mistakes from time to time with our camera. Being able to shoot RAW can save our butts in post if we may have looked over something in the field.

Lets see some Miraculous RAW File Saves from horrid photos to usable or even great shots with the Power of the RAW and masters of the darkroom!

Ill start with this.

Horrid Mixed Lighting, On-camera flash, High-ISO, Shallow DOF, and a Busy Family.

« on: June 04, 2012, 04:06:49 PM »
I Emailed CPS for an Evaluation 5D3 and they responded it wasn't avaliable for rent yet. When do new bodies become avaliable CPS gets them on-hand? An couple weeks? Couple months? A Year Later?

If you started from scratch again, lets say theft or storm, all your equipment was lost.

What lenses and cameras would you re-purchase first and others later? Would you take this opportunity to switch to nikon?

Im positive when we started in photography, we were ignorant on some topics, but now with experience how would you react to a total loss and re-build you system from scratch?

I'd probably start again with this basic setup.

Canon 5D Classic

100mm f/2

50mm F/1.4

28mm F/1.8

Under 2000$ and I could do 90% of all my work with that system.

Lenses / Why no modern nikon lenses faster than f/1.4?
« on: May 12, 2012, 12:10:30 AM »
Id like to know a good answer to why Nikon doesn't make an 50mm 1.2 w/AF or and 85mm 1.2 like canon? I've heard it's from the smaller size of the F mount compared the EF mount. Is this really true? I'd like to know.

I decided on a one year plan to pay for some big glass. I do portraits and the 135mm f2 is my money maker but i'd like more compression but I have a problem.

I've read the 200 F2 is the best portrait lens ever made but its more expensive than the 300mm. Also if i buy it and a 1.4 Extender, i will also have a 30mm 2.8. So why does any one buy a 300 2.8 for portraits?

What should i get for my situation?

Lenses / Your Most Used Lens!
« on: April 05, 2012, 01:38:40 PM »
Simple Question, What is the Single Most Used lens inside you camera bag? And explain what you use it for.

My vote - 50mm 1.2L. Its Great does everything from studio work, to photojournalism, to outdoor portraits, to tight landscapes, for weddings, for fine art work, And tons of other stuff.

My 50mm is like an old friend to the frame lines in my brain.

Lenses / Prime VS Zooms.
« on: April 03, 2012, 11:29:13 PM »
With all this new equipment being released by canon offering great ISO performance. Is an all prime kit seem outdated? I see most opt for pro-zooms than for primes, And some don't own any primes at all. Instead going for 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200 combo.

If you had to forsake zooms or primes, which would it be and why? I could do 80% of all my work with just the 50mm and I'd like to read the varied opinions on primes vs zooms.
