Great shots. I use the same camera + lens combo and love it too. Looks really quite sharp in the first photo, given that you shot wide open at full zoom. I typically do the same (1/200s @ 200mm i.e. keep the shutter at the reciprocal of the focal length), but I gotta ask did you shoot handheld or using a tripod? My guess is the latter.
Thanks.  Both photos were shot handheld a few minutes apart.  I don't have the steadiest hands at times, so the IS must be pretty effective.

So what's wrong with the composition, apart from it being obviously not straight? (I spotted that one....).
And the bird could be brightened up a little maybe.
After all its not that you were a professional laying waiting for the shot. I'd like to hear what could be done
better here, in these circumstances.
Cheers Brian
Hi Brian, yeah I think you're probably right.  I just wish I could have gotten the shot without the siding as the background.  But what I did get is way better than nothing.  Thanks for your comments  :)

Please excuse the composition, but I didn't have a lot to work with.  I was heading out this morning and noticed this hawk perched on my neighbors bird bath.  Unfortunately it flew away when I tried getting closer.

Nice shot.  I wish I could get my pair to cooperate.  Maybe someone could photoshop these two together for me  ;)

Thank you!  Good point on the beetle photo.  I cropped it to get it to 10x8, perhaps I can do so in the other direction.  Thanks for the comments.

Took these photos today (handheld) with my Canon T2i and a Tamron 90mm macro.  Image Stability, blah, who needs it :)

Thanks.  I used a EF 70-200 f/4L IS for both photos (no teleconverter).

Well I took advantage of Adorama's sale and picked up a new Canon 7d last week ($1199).  I finally got a chance today to snap a few photos.  I had a family of cardinals move into my backyard this spring and figured they'd be the perfect subjects.  Snapped these two pics of a male this morning.

Coming from a T2i, I have a bit of learning to do, but I'm quite happy with my first few attempts.

The June edition of What Digital Camera (interactive magazine) reviewed both the Mark III and the D800 and gave them equal scores of 92%.  For what it's worth, they also reviewed the Sony A57 and gave it a 90%.

Yeah nice photos for sure.

Here's a couple I took with my Tamron 70-300mm.  I wish it had a bit more reach.  I think some of the ducks in the first photo look like decoys, but I can assure you they are not.

WOW, great photos folks!

Here's a goldfinch visiting my neighbors feeder.  Snapped this yesterday with my T2i and a Tamron 70-300

Animal Kingdom / A day in the marsh
« on: April 22, 2012, 08:17:38 PM »
My first photo post so please be gentle.  I took these photos the last couple of weekends in a marsh not far from my home.  All photo were taken with a Canon T2i with a Tamron 70-300 attached (I'm working on getting some better equipment).  ;)
