Here are some advice to achieve your goal
1. Choose your sharpest lens, I believe that it is 50mm @ F4 (check it at photozone.de to find the best lens by resolution)
2. Find the lens "Sweet spot", generally is around F5.6 or F8
3. Focus manually with live view x 10
4. Use a remote shutter or 2-10 seconds shutter delay
5. Use mirror lockup to avoid vibrations
6. If you use external flashes, avoid flare
7. Use ISO 100 when possible
Done!

First of all, I don't want to enter to the Mac vs PC, I use both (Day job, Game developer with PC, Night job App developer with Mac).
the Mac advantage is that everything will work at arrival, no problems... 27 inch beautiful screen, all ok...
the PC advantage is that 3500 dlls buy a MONSTER of pc, (think about a 2014/2015 mac release), and the best of all is that this computer will be upgradeable, and with the spare cash you can bought a video card to avoid the rendering times of the video.
I choose the PC way (16 gigs of ram + SSD its a dream), good luck

Pfffff... a lot of useless posts, Nobody knows everything, ok?? 
Some tips for hdr or tripod shooting:
- Almost all the lenses induces movement when used on tripod, as a rule of thumb, when you use the tripod, switch the IS Off
- Use a remote shutter, cable or wireless
- If you don't have a remote shutter, use a 2 sec delay shutter
- Its useful to use mirror lockup to eliminate the mirror shaking when taking the picture
