Thanks guys. I've used the 17 and 24 tilt shifts before and they're by far the most fun I've ever had with a lens, it's just a matter of what is actually more important right now, which I'm trying to decide. I plan on owning them both eventually, just a matter of when I'll have enough money. The other thing to consider is I'll be in New York for the holidays and the 24 TS-E is almost $800 cheaper in the US, whereas the 85 is the same price in Canada (I live in Canada).

Lenses / Next Lens - Help
« on: December 01, 2012, 02:29:15 PM »
So my current lenses are 8-15 f/4 L, 24-70 f/2.8 II L, 50 f/1.4, 70-200 f/4 IS L, 100 f/2.8 L, with a 5D3.

I'm trying to decided between the 85L and the 24 TS-E for my next lens, which is a night and day decision. It will probably be my last (expensive) lens for a while. I shoot basically everything, including films. I'm trying to decide which lens will give me the more creative opportunity, but also fill some holes. The 24 will fill my landscape hole, while the 85 would fill my portrait hole. I wouldn't use the 24 conventionally though, and I would also love it for video because you can create really cool effects that can be used for dream sequences, etc. The 85 would be great for its amazing bokeh and low light performance.

I know none of you can objectively answer this question, but I'd love to hear some opinions anyway.

Thanks!

So just shifting the lens also works fine? Probably gonna be buying the 24 TS-E next month....

Actually, apparently you're supposed to shift the camera, not the lens.

Lenses / Filters for 24-70 II
« on: November 29, 2012, 03:39:21 PM »
What are your guys' views on protective filters? Haven't used them before, but the front element is huge on this thing, plus it's the most expensive lens I've got, so I'm a bit worried. Anyone going no filter for this thing?

Also, what's a good ND filter to get for it? Looking for a 0.9 or 1.2, what's a good brand?

"There is not a single lens that Nikon makes that tempts me to switch--Canon has a rival to match or beat everything they offer.  Am I wrong?"

Well.... 14-24....

Lenses / Re: Anyone longing for 45mm and 90mm TS-E replacement ?
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:54:12 AM »
YES. I'm looking to buy a TS-E and 45 would probably be the best focal length for my needs but I don't want to buy the current version, so I'm likely going to just grab the 24. Hurry up Canon!!

Lenses / Rebates

Are these things seriously ending tomorrow? Is the 24 TS-E that I'm hopefully buying when I'm at B&H next month seriously gonna be $250 more?

The ergonomics and menu system of the D800 are enough for me to stay away.

Something that doesn't get mentioned enough around here in reviews of this lens - it also happens to be one of the BEST lenses for video.
