the wheel on my 7d felt solid, just like the top dial. there wasnt a pop or click sound either to the set button

I think its a sense of machoness, people of all shapes and sizes use smaller gadgets and love them(see the iphone). That said I did pick up a rebel XT and I could see myself getting claw hands with prolonged use(compared to using a 5d3/7d or even t3i), but I chalk that up to older ergonomics rather than small gadgetry.

I cant wait to see how this affects the 1dc. do canon reduce the price, because its also a 1dx. but if they leave the price high, I cant imagine anyone would want it considering the 4k bmc.

with the 5d3 for me its not really worth the risk until it is more thoroughly tested or they come out with some real image quality improving fixes(for video).
if I had a lower end rebel I wouldnt hesitate

beautiful work, really nice variation of shots. I wonder, do you plan the general shots or shoot whatever happens to tickle your fancy? coming from a vfx background, cant really imagine just winging it but Id guess you'd have to in a wedding

Ok but all things considered, 6d is a slapdash quickie response from canon to nikon's latest lower cost FF entry.  At best, a staving move, not a full fledged defense on canon's part.

As more reviews come in, expect an equally mad dash race among retailers to 6D's final price resting point -I will spare repeating the number here . In months, not a year.

At that price point it will be a good value and competent performer. But by no means is it a 5D3 competition.

How do you get this at all? I dont think canon does anything slapdash, it took them a good while to release the eos m. The cameras are similar, its not like the 6d is falling apart due to being rushed out the factory(at least no bad reports just yet).  If you think its slap dash due to the DR, I think that nikon has just won this round fair and square. Or due to things like less af points, less mp, only 1 sd slot etc, Id say those are conscious decisions, not that they ran out of time designing it..

funny you ask this as I have been walking around a lot with my 70-200 and not bothering to take any other lens with me and using my iphone as my wide angle camera.  Seems to work for me, IQ is on par with just about any other mid range PS out there plus it has the advantage of being very light and something Id take with me anyway.  It also is the best PS on the market for taking the photograph, doing some quick pp through snapseed and off to my facebook or flickr accounts.  But if that doesn't work for you I'd invest in the 17-55 f2.8 IS over any of the wide to normal primes especially on APS C.  Its way more flexible and you don't lose much if anything in the IQ department.  My 17-55 was glued to my 7d.

If you're taking photos with facebook or flickr as the only location of the end-product, you don't need a DSLR.

form factor and 4k are the big draws, probably for the professional angle. with black swan they were able to film without a permit, in House they were able to use them in a tight space where a proper rig would not have fit. Who knows if the 4k is worth the price tag they are asking though, should be interesting to see how its received.

I talked to a Canon representative two weeks ago here in Ottawa at a photography show about the 6D which I had in my hands, and he was honnest. He said the 6D was designed for people wanting a full frame for the image quality, while family travelling, hence the size, I can see the video quality and features being adequate for that purpose. I currently own a 40D, and use 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II lens 99% of time on it to shoot sports, and for sports portrait I was thinking of getting the 6D, he told me that the AF speed would be a tad faster than my 40D, but that's it, and I can see while on a family trip that being quite sufficient.

I think the video will be just fine for shooting some video on trip while carrying one body, and a full frame with that.

Pardon, but 2,100$ for family travelling and tad faster AF speed? Greece is in very bad shape, but I don't think that the rest of the world is in much better shape for customers to spend that amount for family travelling.

If you're in that bad shape maybe you would be better served with a 5dc, or a non full frame camera.
