EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Canon 5dIII Raw issue
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:42:37 PM »
I do recall seeing those lines on earlier builds ages ago, when this stuff was just coming out. try the 1066x hoodman raw steel or toshiba exceria cards. also try a different ML build. also ask on the ML forums, there will be far more people familiar with the problem.

Software & Accessories / Re: Canon EOS 7D RAW Video?

The version I have includes the raw module in it, there wasnt any extra hunting for it on the forums. But I agree, their forums are pretty terrible and the way they lay out things is rubbish over there :)

5d3's is pretty solid as is, the interface could be better but i think ML as is is kind of fiddly so Im not really sure how much more you can expect out of it. EOSHD's guide to getting the firmware working is all you really need, the only major searching might be now that the link to the fw in his guide could be out of date.
All in all im not too worried about the flags or bricking it, I would expect its a minor fix for canon if something were to go wrong(as its just software), unlike getting moisture into it or damage from being dropped.

Technical Support / Re: 5DIII Magic Lantern help?

first, 1920x1080 needs 82mb/s according to the ML, it says at the bottom of mine the general mb/s and it changes depending on the resolution. I just tried and the mb/s creeped up to about 91/s when I stopped it after 30seconds or so.
You may want to try the memory hack, and change the preview to hacked, as well as turning off global draw to squeeze out a bit more performance, but it may not do all that much. one of those settings may disable the liveview when you record, cant remember which(or maybe it was another).

try recording to a lower res and make sure you can do it, i think that cards speed should handle 1280x720, just to see if raw video gets recorded at all.

also theres a benchmark in the debug. theres a bunch of posts over at the ML forums on memory card speeds and the results, you will have to search for it. I can personally vouch for the toshiba exceria 1066 32gb card, does 1920x1080 easily.

Right, so gaining features from the xD line at a lower price point is a bad thing. I also have a 5d3, but yeah id love a 1dx and not pay for it, who wouldnt  ::)

why would the 30d get you a point over the 40 and 50d?

Lenses / Re: Canon 35mm f2 IS
« on: July 21, 2013, 04:58:33 PM »
I have this lens, I think the IS may be more like 3 stops. I haven't had the experience of the 1.4, but I bought this over the sigma for the size, weight, and reliable af. AF is super fast, I dont know where you got the idea that it was slower but it seems like its at the top of the heap for lens af I have used(well out of 24-105, 70-200f4 and 135).
It does vignette quite a bit, also the plastic construction, not an issue to me, people gush about the EOS M's construction but they feel similar to me, its well built and leagues ahead of the 50 1.8. For me the real cons are the coma, it is pretty terrible for astrophotography, and obviously price.
I bought this mainly as a primary walkaround lens for my 5d3, and I think it fills that gap rather well.

for those clamoring for an integrated battery grip, why is a separate model not good enough?

Using my 135L does not speed up either.

how does the 135 compare to the 22 or 18-55?

wonder what the used market prices for these will be like in a years time

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 70D Spec List [CR3]
« on: July 03, 2013, 02:33:15 AM »
I agree with bleephotography, but my experience is a 5d3(which replaced my 7d). Its great being able to focus alot faster and more accurately, but when Ive forced a photo in those types of situations, things could be noisy or dark or both. It hasn't really made a large impact to me as an enthusiast, but I could see it being more of a big deal for wedding or event photography.

well the 70d's -.5ev is the same as the 7d's. while i do remember having few stuggles with it in low light, it was usually when the resulting picture would be supremely noisy

really interested to see how the next professional body will be with all these things at the lower tiers(integrated wifi, touchscreen, video autofocus).
