Thanks for all the reply's, they echo what I have been thinking. I'm off to Gibraltar over the next few days, they have the 16-35mm for less then 1k. Going to try out the 17-40 tomorrow, up early to catch the Spanish Sun rise!

This is the worst bit about DSLR ownership, not knowing where to put your money! Nothing is cheep!

Just got my hands on the 17-40 for a long weekend! I'll let you know what I think

Thanks for all the reply’s,

neuroanatomist – Enough to make me want the 16-35!!

crasher8 – Good value but some of the reviews say it’s not the best! Not sure if it would worth of the 5d3!

CharlieB – Budget is coming from the sale of the 70-200 2.8 IS mk1 and sigma 10-22 so about £1300 in the UK.

wayno – Not sure the wife will let me spend that much!!

wickidwombat – That’s a great shot! Love the way the water of the rock does that effect!

RC – Keeping the 24-105 of course! It’s a great lens.

Thanks to all the other reply’s, going to borrow a 17-40mm this weekend to see if I like the results. If not it could be the 16-35mm, I do like the 16mm end (see below, what do you think?)

The 24mm 1.4 is so tempting to have the 1.4, which would be something very new!!

The Sigma ones are cheaper and I'm very happy with them! Full AF on 2.8's

Hi all,

I have just got a 5d3 after a few good years with a 50D. The Sigma 10-22 is APS-C so it's going on ebay.

I have the 24-105 which is a great lens and the 24mm is wide. But the 10-22 was wide.

So, the question for those have either, which would you do?

A)  Zoom Option, 16-35mm f2.8 mk2

B)  Prime Option, 24mm f1.4

C) Cheep Option, Keep the 24-105mm f4 and get the 50 f1.2!

Thanks for looking..

It's not new,  been out a while now!

NOTE from MOD: Post moved from EF 300mm f/4L IS gallery (best to keep all images in lens gallery topics to that lens).

I looked at this but instead went with the Sigma 120-300mm 2.8. It is very sharp.

With the 2x Converter remains sharp, retains auto focus and becomes 240-600mm f5.6.

The first image at 600mm. Shot from over 230 meters away on a 5D3

Canon 5D Mark iii
Canon 50D

Previous lens were

- Canon 18-55 f4          (Came in the 50D kit)
- Sigma 150-500 f6.3    (I did not get on with this at all, needs a lot of light)

Currently I have

- Canon 24-105 f4 L                  (great lens, got this one on ebay 2nd hand)
- Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS mk1    ( Another Ebay buy, great lens again)
- Sigma 10-22 f4                        ( The start of my love for Sigma Lenes, sharpe and a lot cheeper)
- Sigma 120-300 f2.8 IS            ( My best buy, great with 1.4x and 2x extender. IS is very good)

- Sigma 1.4 x Extender
- Sigma 2x Extender

However, the 6D will be offered from DigitalRev at a similar discount ?

Speaking of which, where's the catch with buying from DigitalRev other than hassle sending stuff back if it is broken ?

No catch. For me they have good customer service. No tax (they pay it) and free delivery. Yes if something goes wrong it's a pain, but touch wood, that has never happened yet. They have been around long enough that need to keep their name, International sales is there business (mostly)

£2039 was a bargain, but you are right the 6d, will be cheaper there too.

Enjoyed your pics on flickr!

Given the recent announcement and the affordable price of a 6D with a 24-105mm kit, I'm starting to seriously consider the full benefits of a move from using a 450D with a 15-85mm to a 6D with the 24-105, specifically in terms of shooting in low light, depth of field and so on...    Whilst I'm sure some will shout, buy a 5D III, but seriously folks, I'm not happy to invest that level of my cash into a camera, so...  Please, given my current lens line up, consideration of keeping the 450D with the 10-22, perhaps trading my 15-85 & 18-55, what can I expect and are there any pitfalls I need to think about ?

I was looking at both the 6D and the 5d mk3. I ordered from Digital Rev and the 5d was only £2039 (£200 more then the WEX price of a 6D) that is a lot more camera for not much more. Not sure of it helps but it worked for me.

I think this thread is pure comedy gold.

Asking if it's time for the CEO to go, come on really??? So, you have not used the camera, you don't know how it will sell and no one has done a review on it yet.

The specifications might not read as well as they could but it might perform well for the price to it's targeted users. The photo's and video's available to view look very good.

To most this is the first step to full frame, although not to my tastes I think it will be flying off the shelf's. More choice of camera's means a camera for every budget, in turn more lenses sold, more accessories sold, more people buying into the system.

And, should this not be for some, then it might force them to spend a little more then they hoped to get the 5d MK3. I doubt this will be any thing but positive for Canon no mater how you view the 6D.

Great shot!
