Lenses / Re: What's the best deal you've ever gotten on a lens?
« on: February 17, 2013, 12:25:58 PM »
28-135 used, awesome condition: $180
50 1.4 barely used, $320
100 macro used (with hood) $380
And, my best one yet, 70-200 f2.8 IS... $1000!!! The front thread is damaged because the owner before the owner I bought from dropped it 4in off the ground and so I can't put filters on but it's still awesome!!!

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D III or 1D IV for sports!
« on: February 16, 2013, 05:47:24 PM »
I have never used the 1DIV before, but I use my school's 7D every sporting event. I then rented the 5D MK III for the day, and, speed wise, I couldn't tell the difference. Yes, I know using AF while continuously shooting with the 7D slows it down, but the 5D was faster in tricky af situations, even with 100% AF.

The Canon 5Dc was $3,200 when it came out. Amazon has the 5D mk III for $3000 (for an extra $500, you can get the 24-105 also). The mk III is a pro camera, so is the price. Compare it to the 1Ds III which was $5000 when it came out.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon Cinema Prime Lens Kit in Stock at B&H Photo

$14,220?  Oh is that all?  Great!  :o

That's relatively cheap for cinema primes, Zeiss CP.2s are pretty much the same price.  But then you figure Arri Master Primes are $20k-$25k PER LENS, close to $200k for a set.  And the Arri's aren't an anomaly, there are plenty of other sets that cost that much.

Wow!  Those a re crazy prices.  I can buy a new car for those prices or put a payment towards a house.
Welcome to photography/videography.

Canon General / Re: After CES Whats Next for Canon?

In regards to a high MB Canon, I suspect it's mostly vaporware for now.  Looks to me like Canon was caught by utter surprise by Nikon's D800.  What was Canon corp to do as a response, admit, "uh, we don't have S___ for a high MB camera."?  No, to save face and try preventing a sea of defections, they start rumors of "uh, yeah, we're working on one.  Yeah, that's it, we're working on one."  And when months pass with nothing but words emerging from Canon, they change their tune to "It's new technology... yeah, that's it, that's it, that's why we can't show anybody anything.  It's neeewwww technology."

(h/t Jon Lovitz)
Yeah, I guess Canon doesn't have a response for those high amount of MB the D800 file size have because of the high amount of MegaPixels in that camera. Not a bad thing necessarily.
Are you somehow implying that the high MP file size bothers you? Are you also thinking that disk space / external disk space is expensive or hard to get?

In that case, think again!  ;D Disk space is getting bigger and cheaper by the day. It is also getting physically smaller, so don't tell me that extra disk space is a nuisance.

I'd have no problem with storing 36MP files, or even 60MP files for that matter. No problem with processing them either.
Well, then you get a buffer of a couple of minutes. My point was he said MB and not MP

buy the 1 AF point 6D with social media features (aka wifi).

nah thanks, i stick to my 5D MK2 for a while longer.

But don't you still use only one AF point on that?

Sports / Convince me

The more I have been shooting sports, the more I see that portrait shots make better ones than landscape. Can anyone give me advice on how to shoot (interesting) landscape shots for sports?

You can get them for that cheap:
Yeah, right: "List Price: $3,499.00, Price: $3,458.94, You Save: $40.06(1%)"

Did you look where it was used? They mention it is new but Amazon won't allow that. A little more than 1% don't you think?

Call me when the 5D3 drops.  Love the camera, just don't have $3,400 for it.  How about $3,000.
You can get them for that cheap:

i just hoping that when 6D come out, the price of 5D mark 3 will getting cheaper and i will get the mark 3 instead. thank you canon
Yea really. I don't get all the 7D and 5D MK II owners who want this badly. That'd be like an upgrade from the 50D to 60D. I actually think going from 7D to MK II isn't an upgrade either. Better low light and more MP really. I own the T2i,a nd am saving for a MK III.

While it seems cool, I'm going to still save up for a MK III. More fps, more AF, and there are probably other advantages. Canon likes to experiment on the older cameras then apply to new.
Where is this official? I see no source.

What I find funny is how people were sooo disappointed with the MK III and said they'd keep their MK II. Now, people who said they'd "upgrade" their MK II to this, they say it's not worth it. What I also find interesting are the 7D users who want to upgrade to this. Besides more MP and better low light, you arn't getting much more. You most likely bought the 7D over the MK II for the speed and AF. Just wait a little longer then get a MK III, I see in some places it being $3,000 now.

Seems cool, but what exactly can't his do that a DSLR can't? Andiryou could afford that, you probably could afford the 1DC, which does 4K
