EOS Bodies / Canon EOS 1D-X availability
« on: December 05, 2011, 01:23:34 PM »

I was at Canon event here in Slovakia to test some glass. Canon guy told the history of Canon glass. He also mentioned that release of 1D-X is shifted to april.

One photographer also asked about 5D Mk III and this guy told us that we might see a whole new model, that will be above the current 5D Mk II in line-up (nor 7D-isch AF or higher MP count was mentioned, he mentioned that it could be something new) and we might expect it to be announced in 2012. Also he mentioned that current 5D Mk II is still big cash cow so there is no need and sense for Canon to announce it now.

There was a presentation with leneses and 200-400 f/4L with 1.4 TC was mentioned but with no release date yet.

Greetings from Slovakia !

I want to see 18-21 Mpx sensor in 5D-isch body with 7D AF - Ill buy it. I really dont care much about video features as I am a stills guy. But sadly, there is no camera without video and I think there will be no camera without video in the future. I think many of us need/want better DR and noise in trade off for less video features. If you wants to shoot video you need to invest even more in good rigs for camera and lenses to make it at least a bit professional (not look of you shooting but look of captured video).

I have them for a month or so. I had 1 photo session and there was no problem with TTL metring. They also can do HSS and 2nd curtain sync. Very useful and reliable triggers. Keep in mind to use charged batteries as there can be issue with triggering if batteries are low.

I'd much rather have a 14-24mm 2.8L like Nikon.  Are we ever going to get one...

Agreed. Would be very useful to have 14-24 24-70 70-200 all f/2.8.

just curious.  WHY do you think that the 55-250 will only be 55-200?

...maybe because of what is written in the patent :-) :

Focal distance f=55.60 – 203.11mm

If this is true it's not very. 26MP is way to little. The 18MP of the crop  bodies equals 46MP in FF. This will probably be increase so anything less than 50MP in a new FF is very bad. We pay a lot more for FF and want the same reach as with crop bodies. There are a few things that are neccessary in 5D3
Better (or at least equal) DR than D3x
Better (or at least equal) high ISO performance than D3s
Significantly improved AF
No banding problem
Build in flash
Then there should probably be some improved/added features but that is not as important.

So basically it's very simple to make a something that will meet most peoples requirements, except the high frame rate shooters, and Canon should be aware about this.

+1 for high ISO preformance and improved AF. I think these things are what many of us want from new affordable FF body.

...maybe we'll see better high ISO performance with 'less' mexapixels than expected 30+ Mpx. That would be really nice to see in new FF body.
