5D MK III Sample Images / Need some help in editing.

Hi,

This weekend I have shot my very first concert, and I came up with some pretty good shots and some that I dont know how to edit.

I uploaded to wetransfer.com a RAW shot that I took, to see what I am talking about.

My main problem is that I have really big contrast between some highlights and shadows. On the skin of the singer you can even see clearly the line how it goes from highlight to shadow.
Is that any way to save it?

I would like to have the final result in B&W.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi,

I am shooting on 5D3 with a 70-200 2.8 II and wanted a little bit of extra reach.

I checked this test with more settings but always the 1.4 TC III is way better than the 60D

This is surprising for me. I do not have any possibility to test, but somehow I still think that the 60D/7D + 70-200 2.8II, will make sharper images over 5D3 + 1.4 TC III + 70-200 2.8 II.

(please stick only to this two options and only at which would give sharper image, not AF speed and stuff like that)

I am selling my 24-70 and 17-40 end getting a 17 TS-E and a 24 1.4.

And I want to buy a 105 mm Circular Polarizer and to mount it with one of these solutions:

The current version will be replaced if Canon sees any need - and current corporate policy obviously means that...

* a) another 3rd party manufacturer for Canon has something better (currently not the case, Sigma 50/1.4 is nice but lacks the ultra-thin dof and bokeh, maybe it'll be different with a Sigma mk2)

* b) the competition, i.e. Nikon has something better so people switch brand (like with the 24-70).

... otherwise Canon will keep on selling the thing until nobody wants to buy it anymore, which will never happen given the hype/prestige of this lens. Btw Same goes for "when will they release the 35L mk2?".

Thanks, Its not what I wanted to hear... but you seem right. If that is the case It seems in the next 1-2 years wont be any update right?

Hello there,

I Have now a 50 1.4 and thats the length that I love most for portraits. I tried more 50L but I dont fell them that much better than my 50 1.4.

What do you guys think? When will a new 50 1.2 be released?

I own the 498RC2 and I dont know about the other head, but this one hold my 5dIII my 70-200 2.8II and a flash at 90degrees. Although I have to mention that If I want it to be for example at 70degrees I have to lock it at about 65 degrees and after its all locket it will move about 5degrees down to 70 degrees.
But with my 20-70 I have no problems.

Hi,

I dont want to say the exact story because its long and irrelevant why I want to buy a Mac Mini Server. And its not even important.

What I would like to know is how does the Mac Mini 2 ghz quad core i7 (I will upgrade it to 16gb ram) perform with photoshop, lightroom and premier pro.
In photoshop sometimes I put 10, 22 megapixel raw shots, and in premier pro full hd videos, but with a few effects. I would like to ask if anyone has experience.

Intel HD 3000 vs 4000?

And how is the 2ghz quad core i7 with 8gb or 16gb perform in editing?

I found the Tamron in test to be pretty sharp compared to the Canon 70-200 mentioned above.

HI,

When I travel I usually shoot on wide lenses, architecture and landscapes 65% of the time on my 17-40, 20% of the time I shot on 50 1.4 street photography, and in my bag I always have my 70-200 2.8 IS II for just in case, and when I walk all day long, after a while the weight of it starts to annoy me, so can you guys recommend me a tele lens with is pretty sharp over f8.

(Not necessary Canon lens)

Hey!

I also have a 5D3 and I use a 17-40 which I like. The IQ is not as good as the 16-35 even at f8. I dont know about the CZ 21, but I would consider or the 17 TS-E with a 1.4 TC or a 24 TS-E. The IQ beats all of them. The corners are miles better. And would I also consider because you can control the prospective.

I dont know what do you shoot, but at super wide to wide is very nice to be able to control the prospective.

On a full frame for a head shoulder shot 35 I think its to wide or the distortion is too big, 50 for is all right, but the advantage of 85 IMO is that you dont get in the persons "aura" and he wont feel the fear from camera, the downside is that on a small street like Venice you need to back how you guys said to at least 5 feet and people will always cross in front of your camera...:( I never tried a 85 but I know the upside and downside of 50mm and this is opposite.

For my style of street work, the 5D3 & 1D Mk4 stay at home and the S100 comes out. People have a lot of significance on a "big" dslr and you may not get as much agreement with the bigger pro-looking gear. It's all about perception. In a legally suppressive and paranoid city like London for example, you definitely leave your DSLR back at the hotel! You just have to be a bit smart and be appropriately informed about the local culture, laws and attitudes towards shooting in public depending where on the planet you are shooting.

There is no denying the IQ is way below dslr level when shooting with the little S100, but I come from the school where a prime consideration is that Content is King and this does apply completely to my style and interpretation of street photography. I'd rather a brilliantly caught moment done with an iPhone to a relatively dead, though technically perfect, mistimed shot done on a 5D3 with premium L glass. Content is King.

When the new mirrorless Canons ship, and then evolve a little further, you'll be looking at a street kit that even the street photography "God" Cartier Bresson would show interest in.

Street photography is an entirely different experience to how it was even just a decade or so ago. We're in the post 9/11 world. Suspicion, and the attitude that photographers are child snatching bestial terrorist operatives, plus the long arm of the law have diminished what could be described as one of the purest forms of photography. Remember, if you plan to use any street images commercially or plan to show them as fine art, protect yourself by carrying a dozen or so model release forms in your pocket or bag. If you can't get agreement, don't use those shots for anything beyond personal use.

You may see this as convoluted and confronting, but it sure as hell improves your personal communication skills!

Very true! and I agree 100 percent with you regarding to "Content is King" however if I have a few minutes to take a portrait I usually care about composition and bokeh. For me street photography its not only to capture moments in a city but also faces, its something like what Steve Mccurry does. Thats why I usually ask them if I can take some pictures. I ask them friendly and not only can I take a shot, but also something about their work or whatever and I tell them something about me, like where I am from...and If they dont let me I show them a few street portraits that I have done, and most of the tomes they agree and they let me.

By the way this is an easy way how you can get numbers from girls, I usually tell them that I am a hobby photographer and show them my work on a iPhone and ask them if we could meet somewhere to take a photo shoot ;) they usually like my work and agree :P

This is what I am looking for. Usually I walk around with a 50mm 1.4 because that's the only lens what I have and its not big. I am also looking for some who uses 85 (on FF). Is not to tight to use it for example in some crowded are as Hong Kong or Venice?
