Lenses / Re: What 3 lenses do you dream of and long to own?

Tough one.  As I don't have a lot of gear...

Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II (simple one, but when I use it at other places its a hell of a dream)
24-70 II (I'm getting one soon.. so a 14mm f/2.8L would suffice)
Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L

Mine's a pretty basic one.  If I got enough jobs I could easily achieve that.

As I started to become more experienced with my photography, I realised how much it backfocused, but I think I suddenly got lucky because it rarely backfocuses on me now (THANKFULLY).  But then again I'm rarely using fast glass and I shoot mainly with a wide angle.

I own several lenses. 16-35mm, 28-70mm, 70-200mm II, 100-400mm. 100mm Macro, 50mm 1.4, 180mm 3.5, 60mm, 35mm, 10-22mm, 17-55mm...
So, it is difficult for me to switch to Nikon. I invested to much money into Canon. I sold my old 70-200mm 2.8 and got a couple hundred Euros. It was sold 4 times higher again.

I can save my money for a few month longer, so that I can buy an 5D Mark III. But the 5D3 is not the Camera I am really looking for. An Crop Camera would fit better into my portfolio.

My 7D is broken. Smashed on an car by haviing an bike accident. So I need an new one.
I tried to let the chip be adjusted by Canon. But the image quality got just a little bit better. This took 200 Euros, because the problem was "not really a problem" for Canon Germany.
I heared from an German photo magazine that the quality gap at cheap Camera bodies is quite big.
I think you should give the 5D mark III a try though.  You have amazing lenses, and you may find yourself liking them on a full frame.  If needed, you could by a 1.4x/2x extender.

You could sell your current 70-200 non-is.. and get an IS II.  or even shop around for a decent IS mark 1.  They're pretty good and usually go for around the $1500 mark.
However if you wouldn't consider that It's say go for a 24-105 IS, as the 70-200 f/2.8L is a beautiful lens. (But the IS versions are just as good)

Lenses / Re: Are Primes really better for portraits?
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:28:14 PM »
Prime lenses do have a simpler structure, so they can be made ideal for portraiture and other uses.  But some zooms ( 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and 24-70 f/2.8 I/II) are very good for portraiture as well.  I don't have primes but because I usually use my 70-200 f/4 IS, I use it for portraiture as well.

What lenses do you specifically have? Because you could always sell your EF-S lenses and go with a 5D mark III.  Also, replacing lenses with left over money/saved money.

What gets me is people thinking this may be cheaper than the 1Dx.  If you compared the price of the 1Ds Mark III and 1D Mark IV.. I guess ideas would be more persuaded and logical.
Also, I presume it would be in a 1D type body, if not a 5D body. I don't think it would be the successor of the 7D, because it's completely pointless changing a sports style APS-C into a FF/APS-H (APS-H would be silly for this too) landscape/studio camera.
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up be something like a 1Ds Mark IV (would be funny in some way too, I suppose).
Anyway, I guess the best we can do is wait and see the outcome.
5 fps for a 46.1mp camera seems quite nice too.  But it's going to cost a hell of a lot. I wouldn't be surprised seeing it around the $7,000 mark.
