Shots like this make me want a 100-400. are these cropped at all? and tripod or no? great shots!

Only the Owlet was cropped by about 40%. I use a Manfrotto mono-pod on my walks. The Owlet was shot at 1/60 with reasonable sharpness.

Animal Kingdom / Lions of Gir National Park, India
« on: October 25, 2012, 09:12:16 PM »
Gir National Park is the only park in the world to see Asiatic Lions in their natural habitat. There are about 400+ of them.

First, The cub was terrified of a fight amongst the elders.

Second, The lioness was in a group with seven others.

Third, One of the lionesses was trying to climb a tree.

the last, This lioness was right in the middle of the dirt track.

anand,
These are great. Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking about getting a 100-400. Tell me, how do you like yours?
Cheers,
djd

This is a great lens. Has been with me for a year now. All my wild life and birding is done with this.

Very good capture. If some thing could be done about the highlights on the top 20% of the image that images, they will be awesome. TFS.

Animal Kingdom / Feeding Time

Red Vented Bulbul and chicks. In my garage. Now they have flown away. No other bird will use the nest again.

In the first image the three chicks were clamoring for food. The mother made a number of sorties and came with different kinds of insects every time.

In the second image she is feeding a pancake.

...here is a shot of a three and half year old tigress in Bandhavgarh, India (the Banbehi tigress), taken at 8.00 one January morning at ISO2000 with a 1D MkIV and 300mm lens: 1/250 at f/4.5.

PLEASE don't ask why it wasn't a portrait shot - it was snatched in great haste with little time for thought!  :)

I shall post no more tigers: I simply can't compete with Anand's superb shots!

Animal Kingdom / Tigress
« on: October 16, 2012, 01:33:30 AM »
Mother of the sub-adults. The sub-adults were photographed in January 2011. Their mother in May 2012. I was on an elephant back for over an hour. This tigress was in a cave just above me. The first image at 7.33 am and the second image at 750 am.

No Cropping.

Canon 7D with 100-400. Few minutes later she came down to mate (posted earlier as Male Tiger Relaxing 2). He was in a cave below. Video-graphed with a 100-400 and iPad 2.   The elephant was all the time swaying. When the tigers climaxed they roared and that shook all of us  :) including the elephant that was just 10 feet away.
