Okay, Okay...don't pick the damn things...buy them at your local florist like I do.      ;D

Take five minutes to peruse the magazine section of your grocery store, from "Fine Woodworking" to
"Guns and Ammo". There are niches out there if ya wanna explore them.      ;)

I gave up waiting and bought a 645z
I would have followed suit...but I do to much macro work and it my impression that you need a lot
of extension tubes.      :-\

Put parts of that orchid plant back together using super-glue and PS... ::)

Hey, I've got a great idea...Cut the flower and shoot it inside your house.      :o

An oops scenario...orchid plant tipped onto floor and broke off some blooms.  Had to hold them with
some forceps.  One is stacked, while the other is part of the stack.ch s more pleasing to the eye?     :-\

Macro / Re: Glycerin Drop

FWIW...I'm beginning to think of myself more of a digital designer rather than a photographer, mainly due to PS.     Undecided

Your seeing three images blended together...could not get the SS high enough to freeze the droplet as I insist on shooting at ISO 100.
So I bended a virgin wine glass base with that of a syringe laying atop with droplet emerged and made the syringe go away, then moved
all that onto the original orchid background in the proper position as I screwed-up the initial background.

Looking at the pics I figured it was you! Long time man! Where the beep were you? ...Great pictures as always.
Great shots, chauncey, I especially like the synchronized GBH take off!
Thanks guys for the kudos...alas, age is catching up to me and I have turned my attention to studio work.

Photography Technique / Re: Aperture for total sharpness?

IMHO...use a prime, tripod mounted lens making sure that you are parallel with the subject at all times>get close enough to make a
photo-merge with a lot of overlap>before merging, crop away the outer 20%  of the images and merge what's left.

The number of images to be merged is totally dependent on the final size desired for the image...
I often wind up with 5-6 foot images of my macro flowers that have been stacked and merged that were taken @ f/8-11.

If you're satisfied with it, that's all that matters.
I prefer to use Canon Utility Software and shoot tethered in live view...depend on a 29" monitor for proper focus.     ;)

Couple of things come to mind...the images aren't that good to start with.  Eyes and iris's are not perfectly in focus, the children's expressions could be better (yeah, I know that's tough, but mom with some toys might help).
It just looks like you took some mediocre images and tried to "fix them" and in doing so, ya went overboard.

It occurred to me that they might be more interesting using a different take on those little snow banks.
These three were done last winter.
