Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon Sales Rising
« on: November 05, 2012, 04:57:31 AM »
The reason imo are:

1. very poor RD and as an effect-no real development in camera sensors. To be honest-there are no new products, only corrected or improved to catch market standard (competition)
2. very very high price, not corresponding with quality (sensors) and competition's offer
3. canon is now only driven by accountants and marketing guys.
4. The company strongly believes that loyal customers who already own canon and invested hard in some gear will stay loyal and put more money into the company's wallet.
5. A lot of users buy ie. 5d3 cause a previous model lacks a lot of basics (AF) not because a new one has such a great features. Maybe the 5d4 will have a slightly better DR, no banding, higher x-sync-things which are already provided on the other side of the fence. I know that someone can say that the grass is always greener there, however I checked two sides and that's my opinion

IMHO Canon  pulls the wool over its clients eyes.People are not stupid and don't like to be cheated somehow. People care about their money. I do not see any real improvement and the company does not make me feel it will strongly develop in future, on the other hand, they demand in a greedy way. If had to start from scratch I would definitely go for Nikon now. ( I have already switched to Canon and really regret the decision). Now I just do want to loose my money but I feel that will be my final decision. Moreover I have a lot of problems with my gear since the purchase, so far service did not help me or exchange body to one which works properly.

Lenses / Re: Which Prime: 50L or 35L?
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:58:49 AM »
35L then 85L than 50 1.2 or 50 1.4 II or L (my strongest request for Canon).

If you ge ta  good copy of 35L it's pretty sharp. I really like the lens.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Adobe RGB or sRGB please?
« on: September 25, 2012, 06:10:54 PM »
I'm currently doing a course on colour management for digital photography, and the instructor told us to always shoot Adobe RGB.

As I understand it, the reason is that because the Adobe RGB colour space is larger than sRGB, you will have more colours to work with in post, even if you then convert your final output to sRGB.

Or what curtisnull said while I was obviously typing too slowly...

As far as I am concerned It doesn't matter which colour space you choose in camera while shooting RAW, as RAW has no colour space embedded-It uses full spectrum of the sensor. You then have to choose what colour space will be used for editing. It does matter while shooting JPGs, of course in theory due to the fact that no one is editing jpg's in professional world. Of course AdobeRGB is largest space and it is good for editing, however it depends what monitor you work with. CMYK is the smallest and final print space, but working in AdobeRGB gives you a kind of margin when editing and while having a wide gamut screen you will be able to see more colour tones in specific areas. I suggest one should read a "Real world color management 2 Edition" - imho it's the best and most comprehensive book on the market concerning the colour topic. Highly recommended:)

EOS Bodies / Re: 46.1mp Canon DSLR Previewed at PhotoPlus 2012? [CR1]
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:43:56 AM »
Let it be around 30-40Mpix with good AF AND  greater DR and no visible banding when post processing. So at the end I think I would like to have a Nikon :)... maybe with some Canon optics. ISO max Could be 6400 . And we have a perfect camera which could keep Canon customers. Otherwise there no argument for Canon. So far event D600 outshines the canon's flagship camera in all sensor aspects.

Actually I think that canon makes everthing to postpone the 1dx scoring by dxo. It would be funny if d600 scored better than flagship canon. Unfortunately thats probably the reality.

That's why I finally decided to switch in next months. I just do want to pay Canon any more. Overpriced , old tech and trust me-very faulty gear, also what is more important seems that they do want to develop any more. I don't wantwaste another two years to get 6D2 with 5 crosstypes and 10EV DR. No more. that's my experience. There nothing much to say. You do not have to agree. Everyone has choice.

What the **** is this? A NEW camera....:) funny

Maybe it is time to shut down the canon rumors as there is really nothing exciting about the new gear from Canon.

i wonder what's canon's strategy here?
aiming at old customers who want just to upgrade and forgetting new customers as well?

Well, I have the same feeling, that Canon is focused on  old and loyal customers who are already well equipped with their gear.  I do not think that there are many newcomers who choose Canon over Nikon. There are some arguments like 1.2 optics or 135L, but I think that we will probably see similar stuff developed by competition or maybe it is not so important. Nikon has already a really good lens, but theirs sensors are outstanding. It seems the canon policy is very careful during crisis, on the other side, the global crisis is a time, when the market share could change, so to summarize-I do not understand why Canon set relatively high prices, imo overpricing  products, which are assembled from old school parts in areas when others make such progress and we only see progress in areas already well developed by the competition like AF. Their almost sell the same products twice or more. You can call it in a marketing way-"conservative approach", but as a customer I would call it-greed.   Maybe their main and only goal is to maximize margin, profit, cash etc following a short term policy or maybe their research assets are not sufficient enough to develop in other important  important areas. Maybe they follow Apple policy, as there is no real WOW considering iphone 5. No revolution, small evolution an, relatively, very high price increase which is hard to be justified.

EOS Bodies / Re: *UPDATE* More Canon EOS 6D Specs Surface [CR1]

This spec list of a possible new 6D is simply an amalgam of OLD parts from the 5D2 (Sensor) 7D (AF) and 650D/T4i (articulated screen) and as such if true would represent an act of desperation by Canon Inc. to throw out a new model line based on existing/old technology.

Yes all manufacturers like to share components to reduce costs (e.g. Audi TT, Skodia Fabia and VW Golf all have the same chassis, but that's where it ends) just as the T2i/T3i/60D/7D all share the same 18MP sensor...

..however, to bring out a new model series (6D) with a 2008 sensor and a 2009 auto-focus & metering system, is just pure marketing at its worst. At one level, it shows clear contempt for the consumer. At another, it shows a lack of desire to develop new tech and compete directly with Sony, Nikon, Pentax etc.

I completely agree with you. It seems that they did not make a right moves and agreements in the past, like nikon did with sony. For me it is clear and it has a huge influence on their products at present which are "new" in marketing way of thinking but for real there's not much "new" in canon "new products". To be honest, I really regret that I've switched from competition.

prevent??? why because it will have a flip out  touch screen and facebook button? The competition is not only about the price. it's about the brand policy and strategy too. It is a shame imho that canon does not move forward with core feature like sensor. Instead of developing things that really matter they focus on gadgets and high price tags. Is it the only area they can upgrade? so far it seems true. So far, they try to put already developed things together in different products. Very economical way. Maybe next camera will be 3d with 5d3 body, 50d sensor, 5d2 AF...and 6d facebook button.

WOW, I would be again so happy that canon put more than 1 AF point and a superb sesnor with great dynamic range of 5EV:) Maybe they use some 15 year old sensor and tune it by 0,25 EV. Great! Hope that the upgrade will be beyond a new facebook button on the back.

Canon General / Re: "Time for a Change at Canon?" -Barons

Great, maybe we will have an opportunity to experience some really new cameras and sensors in future. Old guy, old stuff, no real develop and research. Hope a new president will look a bit around and see what competition brings to the market. Canon definetely need some fresh ideas or just new sensors built with up to date technology. On the other hand, is there better manufacturer than sony in terms of sensors? There is a need for a new technology process for canon, otherwise in next two cameras generation the wiill loose a lot of market share. It could be be a shame with such a good optics. Keep my fingers crossed for changes. Hope the new guy will lead the company to the top.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS-1D X Delays [CR2]
« on: May 31, 2012, 02:15:39 AM »
to be honest i think that they just realized that the 1dx sensor is poor in comparison to d4...and trying maybe to improve it a bit. Have no idea if such a fast RD is possible but it would be nice for Canon to win in other category than fps only.

Do you know any shop in UK or Germany which ships worldwide. I just got the information that the grip will be available in my country in the second part of June.
