« on: March 18, 2013, 10:38:46 AM »
strong>LensRentals.com has introduced a program called LensRentals HD.
For a yearly fee of $79, you will get free standard shipping on all your orders for one full year. If you rent a lot, this is going to save you a lot of money. The program also qualifies you for 50% off overnight shipping via Fedex.

At only $79 a year, LensRentals HD makes sense for everyone. Only rent a few small orders per year? You’ll still save money with LensRentals HD. You only expect to place a single large order this year? You’ll still save. You rent all the time? You’ll save even more.

Its basically Amazon Prime for Lens Rentals. My first time renting with LR was over the Christmas season. I used their 1 week coupon for a 70-200 2.8 IS II. Shipping both ways was $30. If I did that 3x I'd more than pay the cost of rental shipping.

Yea, shipping is almost always was makes me hesitate to rent for a couple of days when I just need something for a weekend, because it's only really worth it if I rent for a week or more rather than just going to a local rental house. The part about the local places that I dislike, is that you have to put a hold on your CC for the full replacement value, AND they don't offer any insurance coverage like LensRentals does. That part certainly puts my mind at ease, and it's quite reasonable.

What does the HD stand for?  Heavy Discount, High Definition?

Amazon Prime has really caught the attention of online retailers.  They are all trying to strike deals with shipping companies.  Newegg has one as well.

The issue is that I can't afford to pay several companies $80 a year for free 2 day shipping, so I only pay Amazon.

In the case of Lens Rentals, its a good deal, and I'd do it if I planned to rent lenses or cameras.
