nightbreath, your captures are stunning!  yours and shutterwideshut's images are some of the photos I can only aspire to create in the future.  Tools are great, but without the vision and inspiration, they're nothing but another gear that makes our lives more efficient.  Your vision and composition are top-notch!

Hi Nightbreath

What post processing are you doing to get these fantastic vibrant colors?

You can use any RAW-convertor to achieve the colors. What really matters is whether your original file gives you this opportunity  ;)

Very nice images. However, i feel the shallow DOF is overdone in the first image ... seems to have turned into an abstract. Took me a more than a few seconds to figure out what the image was about.

Cheers ... J.R.
Thank you for the feedback  :)

The photo was made with a flipped lens, so I didn't have control over aperture. That's why I bought an extension tube recently to cover this type of shots  ;D

Though I feel that the image is special due to its extraordinarity. Anyway, I'll take into account what you said and will probably replace the photo with something more interesting  ;)
I could just tell!! I'm too scared to do it with my 5D, but I did it quite a lot with my 60D and 70-200 f/4
Was loads of fun and didn't realise how close I could until I could actually see the ants that were on flowers I was taking macros of!
I'm positive there was a trick to change the aperture but it requires you to use live view mode and change the aperture with the lens attached to the camera and then you take the lens off and work with that.

Love all the shots and it's really quite and inspiration to me!
Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 60D; EF-S 10-22; EF 70-200 f/4L IS; EF 24-70 f/2.8L II; 580EX II.  Soon to add: 50 1.2L, 135 f/2L, 8-15L

You don't need live view. All you need to do is press the DOF preview button while you dismount the lens and the aperture will stay stopped down to whatever your camera had it set to. Even stopped down you still get razor thin depth and the viewfinder will get increasingly darker the farther you stop down.
