Your website has a bug, the submenu that rolls out when the mouse is over "contact us" moves to the side when you roll over it. ( see attachments)

Also: Ever heard of Europe, that peninsula east of you?
A few photgs live there, apparently.

This explains why they hardly had anything for sale on lens rentals.

10 24-105 f/4's for sale, 19 24-70 f/2.8 v1's. Seems significant. Makes sense they are selling off the  24-70's. You think they are just cycling in new 24-105's or they just aren't as popular to rent anymore? They are all rated at or above 7.5 and I don't know their quality control standard.

Noticed the same thing.  Could also mean that they are very popular and they have a very large inventory.  My best guess is that all the "deals" we've seen for new 24-105's have really depressed the used market.  Which is unfortunate as I may be selling my 24-105 soon to help fund a 24-70 Mk II.

I bought an 85mm f/1.8 USM in '7.0' condition, and the thing looked just about flawless to me upon arrival, and functioned like new.  It has worked very well for the past year.  That has been my only experience so far with buying LR stuff, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again in the future.

I wonder if they'll have lenses other than what goes through the rental house. As in, can I sell my lenses/cameras to them like Keh.com or something similar.

I love how honest Roger is.  I've bought two lens from them, and the condition was BETTER than described.

Also, this is awesome (on restocking fees):
"What does that mean, you ask? It means, unless you are a jerk, you won’t be charged the fee.

Who is a jerk, you now ask? If you buy 6 different copies of a single lens, intending to look at them all and return 5 of them – you are a jerk and will be charged the fee. If you’ve bought 10 things from us this year, and you’ve returned 7 of them for no apparent reason – you are a jerk and will be charged the fee."

Yup, we could use more people being blunt and honest. Unfortunately all the "you've hurt my feelings" people will raise a big ruckus and it wouldn't go anywhere :(

The prices on the lenses that I am familiar with are not that great compared to what you can find on Ebay or Craigslist, but you get a real warranty and return privileges.  Plus the Lens Rentals crew apparently tests the optics on each lens, so I'd say overall it looks like fair prices.

I do wonder why they sell off these lenses that are in apparently "rentable" condition.  Do they expect them to start malfunctioning after a certain amount of time in use?

I've found their prices to be fair. Yes, you can probably find a lower price. But, as others have said, the assurance that you are getting something as good as or better than advertised is worth quite a bit.

I've bought used gear from LR before (and rented) and they've always delivered at or above expectations. My only regret is buying any of my lenses new.

Besides LR, I bought a used lens from Adorama. Like those lenses I bought used from LR, the one from Adorama also seemed better to me than its rated/advertised condition.

The bottom line is that an outfit such as LensAuthority or Adorama has so much reputation at stake that a one-off seller doesn't that a premium, if any, is very much justified and worth it.

Pretty much correct on all counts. We sell things at the two year mark and have tons of 24-105s and 24-70s (>200 copies each) for rental stock so we sell about 10 a month - and those aren't selling well right now.

Our QA says anything less than 6.5 has optical, electrical, or mechanical issues so we won't sell it.  Those get disassembled and the good parts sold, or sold 'as is' on eBay.

After we get things settled in (new building and more staff for LensAuthority) we plan to start offering certification for people selling their own gear: we'll independently test it, give a printout of the optics, and warranty it for the seller. Or sell it for them on consignment. We'll clearly identify when an item is a consignment item, but it will be tested to our standards and warrantied if appropriate. For some more expensive lenses it will hopefully provide some assurances to the buyers and be a better deal for sellers who don't want to deal with Craigslist or eBay (or if they do, they can list our test results and warranty when they sell it.)
