I played with the M today at henrys and the auto focus was very snappy now, much better with the new firmware.  It would be a nice play camera.

It is way better than a "play" camera.  I use it for candid's in public places.  I'm pleased with the shots that I probably couldn't get with my other Canon cameras due to their size and the fact they don't have a touch shutter on the touch screen.  Very discreet.

The 50 1.4 has been $314 at Amazon for well over 2 months now. Not really "on sale" from B&H at that point.

Agree on the 85/1.8 - great value now at an even better price!.
Value on the 85? Don't think so. I bought this lens for 379 2 years ago. There's no deal to be had here.

So, $335 isn't 12% cheaper than $379?  You're right, no deal at all.   ::)

heh, didnt have time to edit- i meant, relatively speaking. Its definitely cheaper, but compared to 419...i see they did there :P

I bought my 50 1.4 for the same price too.

My opinion alone- the 85 1.8 is the greatest lens i could live without. Ridiculously quick Af. But the character of the lens..meh. Very flat contrast and just not that awesome, imho. Worst of all, all that damn purple fringing drove me nuts, especially wide open. i occasionally filter down all my shots to a certain lens to see what ive been doing with it. and unfortunately for me, the 85 just wasnt working for me. I hope others are enjoying it.

Be the best you, screw everything else.
