That's quite surprising, coz last Monday (03 March), I bought the 70D+18-55 IS STM kit lens here in Qatar (where the prices are usually almost twice as much as B&H prices) for just a little more than this offer. Maybe the local Canon dealer also had the special discount ... either way that's a pretty good deal.

And I assume you mean through B&H, but the $1049 with 18-55 was supposed to be through Amazon.

Why would anyone buy a used 900 7d when you can get a new 70d for 1049?  8 vs 7 fps?  Anything else?

You might be surprised to know that, where I live the 7D actually costs 30% more than the 70D ... and people are still buying it, here, at that price. I had the 7D, which was sold in 2012 to fund the 5D MK III, so I was aware of what the 7D is capable (or not capable) of ... that's why I bought the 70D last week ... the sharper image quality and much better high ISO performance on the 70D is easily noticeable and the lightning quick autofocus with the touch screen is just AWESOME. The only advantage (if any) of the 7D, over 70D, is the buffer and true 8fps ... although I have not done any "scientific testing" my copy of the 70D doesn't quite "feel" like 7 fps, whereas on the 7D I can easily "feel" the 8fps working like clock work. My vote goes to 70D any day over the 7D

And I assume you mean through B&H, but the $1049 with 18-55 was supposed to be through Amazon.

clarification: an EDU account is for students and educators at B&H. You don't get the dividends rewards program but you get big discounts and gift cards on select items.

Where do you buy in Dubai? ... coz I have a Aramax shopandship account that lets me shop and get it shipped to Qatar from 8 different countries for a very nominal fee ... it would be nice to know some good online stores in Dubai that stores a good selection of camera gear.

I’m not sure if any have an online store (DO NOT buy from Souq.com or Dubizzle!!!) but I’m happy to give you the names of the physical stores in Dubai.
I have mostly bought my main gear from Al Falak, their in Mirdiff City Centre and they offer me the best prices, 1st floor opposite Canon and Sharaf DG 00971 4 284 0801. 
Next up is Grand Stores, they’re also in Mirdiff City Centre, ground floor outside Carrefour 00971 4 284 3055.  Then there’s Kansas who are also in Mirdiff, 1st floor near Home Centre +971 4 284 3655. 
I hope this helps mate, I’ve found them all to be good to a certain level, if your ever heading over here drop me a PM and we’ll meet up.
