I can list one on Amazon for any price you name, they have no upper limits.  Of course, it would not sell.  Some stores do that so they can point to the high price on amazon and tell you what a great deal they have.

The VAT is 25% on all purchases in Norway.

All norwegian stores list it for 4900 USD :-( It's not the goverments fault, it's the greedy people at Canon Norway.

I pay 40% tax on my salery, when i fuel my car the diesel cost $2.55 pr. liter! There is 14% VAT on food, 25% on everything else... Norway is f**ng expensive 

But i preorderd a MK III anyway

Out of curiosity, are US retailers not allowed to ship to Norway? What prevents a US retailer from shipping the camera at $3,500 into Norway?

I'm not kidding! I live in Brazil and here is the most expensive place in the whole world to buy things.... We still don't have it for pre-order, but just for comparision, the old 5D MK II + 24-105mm is "only" U$ 7,500.00!!!!! It is ridiculous!

I live in the Dominican Republic.  Not sure how it compares to Norway because over here the retailers list the price in body parts.  A 5D mark III retails for an eye, an ear, an arm, and your choice of a leg or a testicle.

Strange, as Norway prices normally can compete with international prices on photo equipment. I travel all over the world and e.g. Singapore is not much cheaper.
So this is very strange indeed....  If they do not change this... I buy it in US over the next month....
Could be they are protecting themselfs from exchange rate fluctations..

I just did some calculations using an online import duty and VAT calculator, to import from the US into Norway, it would work out to just under $4400 plus shipping. In the UK, it would be just under $4100 plus shipping. The difference is, the UK VAT rate is only 20% compard to the Norwegian 25%. When I imported filters, I also had to pay import duty, but according to the calculator, import duty is zero rated for cameras. I know when I've looked at lenses in the past, the difference was minimal between buying in the UK and importing, so much so that it wasn't worth the loss of the warranty.
