The thread title is a bit of a conundrum. Because I took the pic below with a old Kodak 2.1 MP camera that cost almost as much as my 7D. So it's old but it was NOT cheap.  :o

This is one of the first photographs I ever took from the week I first got a camera.  It was a FujiPix A210 3.2MP PnS circa 2004.

EOS 650
- with Sigma 70-210 (Hey, that's all I could afford as a student!)
- with 50mm f/1.4, Speedlite 430EZ - incidentally, shot last year.

Oh, and when I bought the EOS 650, I didn't feel it was cheap!  Again, that was on a student's budget!

Not earth-shattering photos, but I am fond of them.

This is a fun one not necessarily meant to show a great picture... Here are three pictures of the same statue (Rape of the Sabine Woman) in Florence, Italy that I took in three different years as I learned more about photography and upgraded equipment.

The first photo was taken in 2007 with a Panasonic DMC-FZ5 PnS.

The second photo was taken in 2009 with a Canon XTi and the kit lens.

The third photo was taken in 2010 with the Canon 5d mark ii and a 24-105L.

I plan on taking my 5d3 and a Zeiss lens next year!

Great thread. Just goes to show that while the latest and greatest gear is fun, it doesn't always a good photo makeā€¦..

Its threads like these that weed out the true photographers from the Measurebators.

Give me any camera and I'll squeeze a Great photo from it.

Great thread!  It's fun going back through the archives and remembering that it's not about the gear, but about the photos!

I automatically go into "snap shot" mode when I'm on vacation and bust out the G7, but sometimes luck transcends laziness :) In this shot, light reflecting off the windows of an adjacent building cast just the right amount of beautifully soft light onto this landmark.

The sun was directly overhead in this shot, but it actually hit the columns at an oblique angle to make the light far less harsh than you'd expect at this time of day.

This is still one of my favourite photos i've ever taken. It was shot with my first dslr a Canon 450d with a Sigma 10-20mm.

Looking back through my old photos, they seem to be better than the photos i'm taking now with my 5dii. Something's not right here...

I love the color and composition in this one. Move the camera just a few feet to the left, right, forward, or backward and the composition would be completely different. Looks like you got it just right. I find how the staircases create a vanishing point effect to be quite brilliant. Nice work :)

Oly C8080 8MP and OlyC2100 2.1MP

Not like it's any good, but I kept it for the memories it brings back...
This was a Sony Mavica 1.4MP which recorded to a Floppy disk :)

Same here with old photos being better. I guess it's also the fact that I'm very critical with my photos and tend to look at them for some time again and again also during postprocessing. I tend to focus on the bad things of them when I've seen them too much. After a half year of new photos, I'm back in love with the (then) old ones.

And hey, great photo! QVB is destined for such shots!!
