edward...did you get a chance to see them at full speed...i imagine they can cover 100 meters in 3-4 seconds...as compared to the world record for humans at 9.6 seconds (roughly)
Yup, lovely capture. How far were you from the cheetah? Would it be about 35 to 40 meters?
Yes, the previous Posted image was shot about 30 metres from the Vehicle.
We were fortunate on this trip to see start to finish 3 Cheetah Kills.
The difficulty is positioning your vehicle, without getting in the way of others, so you see the actual Kill from the best vantage point.
The Image with Mum & Cubs, these Guys were no further than 15 metres from the vehicle when Mum & One Cub noticed a Thompson's Gazelle.
Image in the middle shows Mum full flight, estimate + 80 KPH at this point, from standing start to Kill it was over in 4 seconds, maybe 5.
Final Image shows Thommy, I think he knows at this Point he has about a second of Life Left.
The actual Capture is just a huge pile of dust above the Grass, the drawback to the Serengeti being Tall Grass, it's a bummer for some shots, and distance was around +100 metres when she brought the Gazelle down.
The reaction of the Cubs is amazing, they just sit and watch Mum in action, they make no attempt to get involved in the Kill, we did see another Kill of a very Young Thompson's where the Mother captured it, waited until the Cubs came up, she then released the Kill several times to allow the Cubs to practise captures.
