Winter is over and I need to start practicing with the long lenses again. This is The Local Lion assessing his territory on a late March afternoon. I never get tired of looking at how animal eyes and fur is replicated in an image.
If you expand this to 200% and look at his left eye (right from your perspective). How much more resolution do you need?
1DX, 600/4 IS II, 1/640s, f5,0 ISO100

Nice shot and I agree with you about the eyes. Very cool.

Now this would be a serious replacement to the 1Dx.

Yeah, that's the only issue   :(

But, when Canon do release this, no need for a Phase one   ;D

And don't forget the 200-600f/4, with a 1.4x built in, ahhhh, dreams are made of this.

I saw my first ever Phase One at a sporting event just recently. Took a pic of the guy shooting with it as we seem to cover many of the same events, but do not know each other. He only shot with it briefly then returned to his Nikon gear, but I was still surprised to see it.

FWIW, the guy was shooting the crowd with it not the sport on the pitch.

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone knew and could explain the wave lines in the fence bars at the edges in this shot? I haven't seen it before at all and it seem they follow the curves of the subject behind them? Weird to me at least.

It's shot @f1.2 with the 85mm L II.

It's an optical illusion, I believe. Here's an article about them - not exactly the same, but I think that it is just the way the eye gets fooled - if you hold a straightedge up next to the fence, the rails look straight.  http://brainden.com/line-illusions.htm

It is partly an optical illusion, but some of them are bent.

Yeah, I tried to hold a ruler along the lines and they still looked wave like to me.

Any lens aberration filters enabled?  Also the 85 1.2 does suffer from a lot of chromatic aberrations. This could be an effect of colors not focusing at the same point along the edge of the frame...particularly in out of focus areas.

Love it and the grebes you've been posting.  I need to get out there and shoot more so I can start contributing to this thread, too.

I think I had the aberration filter in Lr on, but I also checked the untouched raw file, and it looks exactly the same.

Would have been interesting to see if it occurred at f5.6.  At f1.2 the light curves are all over the place.  I still think this is just due to the lens being used wide open.
