  • Sheesh where’s that 5D2 guy to tell us he was all over this since the beginning of time, that he was right when everyone else was wrong, and to lament that Canon failed to credit him with bringing it to their attention with an appropriate notation in the release notes?!?

  • Yikes, a fix for the movie function – again!

    Hello Canon!
Where is the new 7D (and 5DII), to please the FF guys in here) firmware that finally brings the adjustable auto ISO upper limit that you actually had the audacity of introducing in a bloody Rebel first? Well, outside of the 1 series, of course but they don’t count.
And while you are at it, you could just admit that your APS-C ISO 3200 are just not good enough so that anyone interested in image quality could live with ending there all the time when using the current bad joke of an auto ISO function on the 7D.

  • Lol, no good to me since i don’t shoot movies. Figures though, they would address the movie mode

  • Funny, I just emailed the CR Guy on this subject a week or two ago. I was hoping/wishing for a little more! After all, it’s been over six months since the last update.

Here are a few I’d like to see for the 1D4:

Easy ones for Canon to do: Navigation through the info menu on the LCD, using the multicontroller, Ala 5D2/7D.

Also, adding the capability to use the spot AF function on all lenses would be cool too!

Little more challenging ones: Illuminate the surrounding FP/FPs the camera selected when viewing the image on DPP. Same thing for when using the auto FP selected point/s (when some or all 45 FPs are selected). Right now, all you get is the primary FP (manually selected FP) or, the FPs surrounding the outside 45-points when auto FP selection is used.

Here’s a couple of big ones….allow RAW images to be sent to only one of the cards and “L” to the other separately and not at the same time, from the card selection menu. Right now, you can only select RAW+L on both cards at the same time or spend extra time/effort to shoot RAW on just one card (only one card in the camera).

It would also be nice, to be able to store more that just two (separate) manually selected AF points, when pressing the multicontroller. Maybe a CF to allow this?

  • “Easy ones for Canon to do: Navigation through the info menu on the LCD, using the multicontroller, Ala 5D2/7D.”

Can’t the 1D4 do that? ugh..

Some people already “fought” to be able to use the multicontroller to choose the AF point some years ago on the 1D series…

Sometimes people needs to join together to get “responses”, no doubt.

  • Thanks.

CR and few other websites helped to spread the information (although there was big confusion of some readers that didn’t understand what the issue actually was), along with some users reporting to Canon tech dept.

Immediately after finding, testing and confirming there was an issue, we directly sent our detailed report to many Canon Managers, Tech Service department (more than once), and even to Canon CEO (yeah, why not?)

Even when we made the reports the best we could with clear proofs (that everyone with the camera and lens could easily duplicate), you know how much the power of media/press can help nowadays…

It took more than 1 month to get a clear confirmation from Canon that they were aware of the iris issue. They were inconsistent on their responses (USA vs. Europe) until a couple of weeks before the release of Firmware 2.0.7:

Fortunately they finally put hands on it and released the fix.

We expect a similar one for EOS 7D.

  • Check it out the 1d mark iv can now float! didn’t I tell you this a couple months ago??? Next update you will be able to take pictures with your mind ;)

All joking aside it’s nice to see canon updating it’s camera os.

  • LOL…I always get my butt kicked in here for saying: If i want Movies i’ll buy a movie Camera. Now it seems i gotta pay for something i don’t need nor want.
