Two new EOS M cameras rumoured to be coming in 2020 [CR1]

Two new EOS M cameras rumoured to be coming in 2020 [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | November 18, 2019 | Canon DSLR Rumors

2020 is shaping up as a big year for new product announcements from Canon, especially on the prosumer and professional fronts. The EOS M lineup will likely see at least one new model as well, as the EOS M50 will likely need a successor.

This rumor is being floated by a site that doesn’t source any sites they take information from, so I’ll return that favour. :)

Rumoured EOS M50 Mark II / EOS M60

  • 32.5mp APS-C CMOS sensor
  • DIGIC 8
  • UHD 4K 30p / 24p
  • Full HD 120p
  • Rear monitor 3 inches 1.04 million dots Vari-angle touch panel
  • Announcement date September 2020

Rumoured EOS M camera

  • 24mp APS-C CMOS sensor
  • 3rd generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology / Eye AF compatible
  • Rear monitor 3-inch vari-angle touch panel
  • Announcement date Before July 2020
  • Price $849 with kit lens

I don’t put a lot of stock in these rumours, as pricing wouldn’t even be close to decided at this time.

The EOS M5 isn’t going to get a Mark II version according to Canon, and I can’t see Canon adding a new model to a lineup that already has the entry-level EOS M200, mid-range EOS M50 and top-end EOS M6 Mark II. Anything APS-C above the EOS M6 Mark II would make more sense with an RF mount in our opinion and I’m not sure a 4th model could slot between any of the mentioned cameras.

I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in this one.

Patent: Some crazy fast RF mount prime lenses, including an RF 18mm f/1.0L

By Canon Rumors | November 14, 2019 | Canon Patents

Back in August, I mentioned that Canon was working on a whole line of f/1.2L prime lenses for the RF mount. So far we have the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM and the RF 85 f/1.2L USM, but there are more clues that more f/1.2L lenses are in the pipeline.

Canon News has uncovered the following optical designs for the RF mount.

Canon RF 18mm f/1.2L USM

  • Focal length 18.51mm
  • F-number 1.24
  • half angle of view (degree) 49.45°
  • Image height 21.64mm
  • Total lens length 129.00mm
  • BF 16.40mm

Canon RF 24mm f/1.2L USM

  • focal length 24.59mm
  • F-number 1.24
  • half angle (in degrees) 41.35°
  • Image height 21.64mm
  • Total lens length 129.01mm
  • BF 13.57mm

Canon RF 16mm f/1.4L USM

  • Focal length 16.42mm

  • Half angle of view (degree) 52.80°
  • Image height 21.64mm
  • Lens total length 133.46mm
  • BF 13.55mm

Also included in this latest patent, is a crazy fast wide angle prime lens design.

Canon RF 18mm f/1.0L USM

  • Focal length 18.50mm
  • F-number 1.03
  • Half angle of view (degrees) 49.47°

What’s next from Canon?

What’s next from Canon?

By Canon Rumors | November 11, 2019 | Canon DSLR Rumors

If you follow a rumours site, it’s likely you always want to know what’s coming next. The following is what we have been told about over the last few weeks.

First up. obviously the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is coming soon, we hear that shipping will begin in late February or early March after an official announcement in late January 2020.

There will be a new EOS R series camera announced in early February, it will be the high megapixel replacement for the EOS 5DS/5DS R, it will be equipped with Canon’s next-generation sensors, DIGIC processors and a new form factor that will include the smart controller we first saw on the EOS-1D X Mark III. This will not be the “pro” body that people are clamouring for, but it will be upmarket from the EOS R.

Cue the head spinning, The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III to be 20.1mp? [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | November 7, 2019 | Canon DSLR Rumors

Sometimes after we report something, it brings about some contradictory information soon after. Yesterday we reported that a source was “80% sure” than the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III would house a 24.x megapixel sensor.

This is what makes the rumor mill fun.

Shortly afterwards we were told by an anonymous source that the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III would actually sport a 20.1-megapixel sensor, which would mean it’s staying with about the same resolution as the EOS-1D X Mark II.  The source claimed to be “100% sure”.

If any of our known sources could corroborate this information one way or another, we’d appreciate it.

Remember, this a rumors site, contradictions in information happen a fair bit before the truth gets nailed down.

Firmware: Updates for the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III and EF 600mm f/4L IS III are available

By Canon Rumors | November 7, 2019 | Canon Firmware

Canon has released new firmware for its latest super-telephoto lenses, the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM and the EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM.

Firmware Version 1.1.2 incorporates the following enhancements:

  1. Increases the manual focus speed when the manual focus speed switch is set to 1 or 2. *The speed when the switch is set to 3 (slowest speed) will be unchanged.
  2. Improves the image stabilization effect during handheld shooting with a slow shutter speed when used with EOS 5D Mark IV, EOS 6D, or EOS R.

*Enables a full-time manual focus function during Servo AF when used with the EOS-1D X Mark II. The lens must be sent to the Factory Service Center in order for this function to be enabled.

If the lens’ firmware is already Version 1.1.2, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

The lens firmware version can be checked from the camera’s menu.
