There are still surprises in store for the Canon EOS R5 announcement [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | June 30, 2020 | Canon DSLR Rumors

I have been told that there is one “major new feature coming in the EOS R5 for photographers”, unfortunately, I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to find out what that means with little success.

We have seen some bold marketing claims in the past, so I don’t want to get too exciting, but Canon has definitely kept the stills photography crowd wondering what’s coming in the EOS R5.

I wish I had more, but July 9, 2020, isn’t too far off, so we’ll know by then as the worst-case scenario.

Canon will do a Livestream for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 official announcement [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | June 28, 2020 | Canon DSLR Rumors

I have been told that Canon will be doing simultaneous live streams in the USA and Europe for the announcement of the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 on July 9, 2020, if true, I suspect we’ll be seeing a teaser for the event very soon.

The same source claims that the RF teleconverters will work with any RF lens (I’m not sure about this claim). I’m also not sure if things will work differently with adapted EF lenses.

I have also been told that there will be more “cool” adapters and lens add-ons coming later this year. I wasn’t told any more than that.

Canon develops world’s first 1-megapixel SPAD image sensor

By Canon Rumors | June 28, 2020 | Industry News

Canon Inc. announced today that the company has developed the world’s first1 single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) image sensor with signal-amplifying pixels capable of capturing 1-megapixel images. SPAD image sensors are ideal for such applications as 2-dimensional cameras, which capture and develop still image and video in an extremely short span of time. These sensors also hold potential for use in 3-dimensional cameras due to their ability to obtain information about the distance between them and a subject as image data.

New Firmware coming to the Canon EOS R

By Canon Rumors | June 25, 2020 | Canon EOS R

I am told that a firmware update for the Canon EOS R will be coming sometime before the end of July.

As far as we can tell, the firmware update will be for bug fixes.

On the topic of the EOS R, a separate source told us we can expect to see another Canon EOS R price drop before the end of September, likely priced at $1499 USD. The camera will remain current to the EOS R lineup into 2021 we were also told.

By Canon Rumors | June 23, 2020 | Canon Accessories

Both the Pixma Pro-10 and Pro-100 are quite long in the tooth, and it looks like Canon is readying a new A3+ (13×19) printer.

Details are scarce beyond it having a new design language and LCD screen, but expect the new printer to be announced alongside the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and new lenses on July 9, 2020.

Review: Canon RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

Review: Canon RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

By Canon Rumors | June 22, 2020 | Canon Reviews

Bryan over at The-Digital-Picture has completed his review of the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM, a lens that will likely become quite popular with Canon EOS R6 buyers when the grab the camera with the lens included.

This is the first f/7.1 lens we’ve seen from Canon, which may be offputting to some, but for a lot of shooters, it’ll be a worthwhile trade-off for the lightweight design and affordable price.

Here are more Canon EOS R6 Specifications [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | June 18, 2020 | Canon DSLR Rumors

A little bit lost in the hype of the Canon EOS R5 is the Canon EOS R6. We broke the news of this model back in January, and Canon hasn’t done any sort of teasing for it. However, some early specs have remained true over the last few months, and now we have more information about the coming EOS R6

The Canon EOS R6 is aimed squarely at people looking for high ISO performance, great video specifications, and priced right for a lot of shooters.

I asked, and my sources came through. I now know the announcement date for the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and new RF mount lenses.

The big day? The official announcement will take place on or around July 9, 2020!

Canon products being announced on July 9, 2020

  • Canon EOS R5
  • Canon EOS R6
  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
  • Canon RF 100-500mm f/4-7.1L IS USM
  • Canon RF 600mm f/11 DO IS STM
  • Canon RF 800mm f/11 DO IS STM
  • Teleconverter RF 1.4x
  • Teleconverter RF 2x

The image below seems to be missing a couple of lenses, most notably the RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM and the RF 50mm f/1.8 (I think), so these probably won’t ship until Q4 of 2020.

The same source has told us that the Canon EOS R6 body will ship in August, and that the Canon EOS R5 won’t begin shipping until September. Ship dates have been a moving target thus far, but that falls in line with my original leaks that the EOS R6 would ship before the EOS R5.

Below is an image that shows the new Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and new RF mount lenses. Notice the new silver color on the RF 600mm and RF 800mm lenses.
