Is Canon working on smartphone addons? This design seems to suggest that they are

By Canon Rumors | October 25, 2020 | Canon Accessories

Canon News has uncovered a smartphone lens add-on design by Canon.

On the surface, it looks like a lens addon, capable of different focal lengths. The different lenses in the design illustration seem to show that they are held together magnetically.

Canon has had some new designs and products such as the PowerShot Zoom over the last year or two, so it’s possible that this too will end up a consumer product.

Is Canon testing an 8K Super35 Cinema EOS camera? [CR1]

Is Canon testing an 8K Super35 Cinema EOS camera? [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | October 22, 2020 | Canon Cinema EOS Rumors

Canon Watch is reporting that a Super35 8K Cinema EOS camera is currently in field testing. I have been unable to confirm this information, so please treat it accordingly.

Unnamed Canon 8K Cinema EOS camera specifications:

  • 8K 3.2μm Super 35mm imaging sensor
  • High-Speed 3D
  • Dual Gain Output
  • Dual Pixel AF II
  • Dual Native ISO
  • DIGIC DV X (Faster AF, Faster I/O, Faster UI)
  • DCI 8K 60fps 12b RAW
  • 4K RGB (2-Green-pixel binning on the sensor) 90fps 12b RAW Output

I do not believe that the Cinema EOS C90 will be an 8K camera, so if this information is correct, it’s a new camera for the Cinema EOS lineup.

8K is coming sooner than later from Canon, the EOS R5 can’t be the only camera in their lineup capable of capturing 8K video. I don’t think we’ll see anything officially announced until at least April of 2021.

Review: Canon EOS R5 by DPReview

Review: Canon EOS R5 by DPReview

By Canon Rumors | October 21, 2020 | Canon Reviews

DPReview has completed its review of the Canon EOS R5. They come away very impressed with the camera, with the caveats that we’ve read about ad nauseam.

A couple of new things I hadn’t read about the EOS R5 from the DPReview is that dynamic range dips a bit when shooting with the 20fps electronic shutter as the camera goes from 14-bit to 12-bit when using the electronic shutter, which had overlooked until today.

There is also non-optional noise reduction applied to RAW files. Outside of those two things and how the camera handles heat for 8K and 4KHQ, there really isn’t much negative to say about the camera.

From DPReview:

The Canon EOS R5 is well-suited for just about any type of photographer, whether you shoot portraits, events, weddings, sports, family gatherings, and more. We’ve felt a bit let down by Canon’s promises of the camera’s outright video capability, but for most users, it’s still a great option for getting good-quality video clips of almost anything you point it at. Power users that need the best video quality all the time won’t be a good fit, but otherwise the EOS R5 is a fantastic option for almost anyone looking for a quality full-frame high-resolution mirrorless camera. Another batch of Canon EOS R5’s hit retailers this week, but from my understanding, the backorder lists are still pretty long. Hopefully, that changes before the end of 2020.

DJI Matrix Stereo – Pocket 2 uses a 4-way array of microphones to capture beautiful surround sound audio

Four Array Microphone – DJI Pocket picks up beautiful stereo sound.

Joystick Control – The multi-use Mini Control Stick lets you tilt, pan and zoom all with one thumb control.

Built-in Wireless Connectivity – No need to purchase a separate wireless module. Connect your smartphone or other wireless accessories (like the Wireless Mic) and access all of the features of the Pocket remotely.

8x Slow Motion – Our beta version of the original Osmo Pocket had 8x Slow Motion, but DJI never rolled it out to the masses. It’s back and fully available in the Pocket 2 at 1080p!

Hybrid AutoFocus 2.0 – This feature lets you autofocus more quickly and accurately on a subject. It makes a world of difference when you’re tracking and want clear footage between transitions.
