“Pro” EOS R camera coming in March 2020? [CR0]

“Pro” EOS R camera coming in March 2020? [CR0]

By Canon Rumors | October 21, 2019 | Canon DSLR Rumors

A confusing new rumor is hitting the gear sites about a “pro” EOS R camera.

This rumor suggests that a 60mp “Pro” EOS R camera with a similar feature set and an EOS-1 level camera will be announced ahead of the Photography Show 2020 in March of 2020.

There are a couple of issues and confusion about this report.

  1. No EOS-1D X level EOS R camera is going to get a 60mp sensor. It’ll be much lower resolution, likely in the 24-28mp range.
  2. Announcing after CP+ in February doesn’t make a lot of sense, the Photography Show isn’t a major event for Canon. Now it could be announced ahead of CP+ and obviously showcased in the UK the following month.
  3. We’ve been told that the high megapixel EOS R camera is what is coming next (other than the EOS Ra astrophotography camera). Such a camera could definitely be considered “pro”, but it won’t be an EOS-1D X level professional camera.

Definitely take this report with a huge grain of salt.

New designs for replacement ME200S-SH and ME20F-SH cameras seem to have surfaced

New designs for replacement ME200S-SH and ME20F-SH cameras seem to have surfaced

By Canon Rumors | October 20, 2019 | Canon Cinema Lens Rumors

Canon News has uncovered what looks to be new designs for the speciality cameras the Canon ME200S-SH and the Canon ME20F-SH (which is listed as discontinued at some retailers). If you’re unfamiliar with theses cameras, the ME20F-SH shoots in 1080p at up to 4 million ISO. The ME200S-SH is the “affordable” version that shoots to 204,000 ISO.

There seem to be new connections on each camera design and I imagine any updates to either will bring 4K recording. I also wonder if the mount is interchangeable on one of the cameras because of the 4 screws on the front of the new design. There looks to be enough space to swap out the EF mount for an RF mount. Or more likely, being able to swap EF and PL mounts on your own.

The end of an era? Review site Imaging Resource nearing its end

The end of an era? Review site Imaging Resource nearing its end

By Canon Rumors | October 14, 2019 | Industry News

Imaging resource has been one of the best and most comprehensive camera review sites for 22 years. Sadly, the end may be near for the site.

Image resource has released the following statement about why they’re closing down:

We’re (probably) closing early next year, and here’s why

They say all good things must come to an end, though, and tantalizingly close to a quarter-century from when I first had the idea for it, I’m sorry to say that Imaging Resource, too, will likely be winding down early next year.

The reasons for that decision are many-fold. For one thing, the camera industry itself has been contracting for quite a few years now. That’s due in part to the arrival on the scene of high-quality camera phones which, especially for many more casual photographers, negated the need to carry a separate device on which to capture their memories. Read the full statement

Reviews take a level of work that shocked me during my half-assed attempt at doing them. There was no way I could do what great sites like Imaging Resource are doing.

Canon Rumors is pretty much a one-man-show, which makes the challenges of feeding multiple people with declining revenue streams less of an issue for me, but I am actively looking at new ways to grow the site while keeping costs from going up.

I do hope Imaging Resource finds a way of making things work in the future. I love their reviews, but I may love their interviews with the camera companies even more.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark V is in the works [CR2]

The Canon EOS 5D Mark V is in the works [CR2]

By Canon Rumors | October 14, 2019 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We have been told that Canon still has plans to update its most popular professional full-frame camera, the EOS 5D Mark IV.

The EOS 5D Mark V apparently appeared on an internal roadmap, along with an EOS R Mark II, the source did not provide the timeline of the roadmap.

We think it makes a lot of sense to see another iteration of the EOS 5D DSLR, along with a similarly specced EOS R Mark II.

With all of the new cameras expected in 2020 from Canon, I don’t see either the EOS 5D Mark IV or EOS R replacement coming before Q4 of 2020.

Here’s the upcoming Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM zooming in and out

By Canon Rumors | October 10, 2019 | Canon Lens News

A lot of people were still holding out hope that the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM would have an internal zoom like its EF brother. Sometimes hope overpowers common sense.

In the above video at the 45-second mark (the video has been removed, below is a gif from the video), you can see the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM with an external zoom.

We expect the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM to be announced soon with availability coming in December.
