Canon announcements will continue as previously planned

Canon announcements will continue as previously planned

By Canon Rumors | March 30, 2020 | Canon DSLR Rumors

I have been told that Canon plans to continue their scheduled announcement dates for new products, including the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, and a new Cinema camera.

The EOS R5 and EOS R6 are scheduled to be announced in the next 8 weeks or so, and a new Cinema Camera should come in April.

Announcements for new lenses may get pushed back I have been told.

The downside is ship dates are a complete unknown at this time, which I think is an expected reality.

More to come…

Canon confirms that the EOS R5 is the 5D series equivalent for mirrorless

By Canon Rumors | March 24, 2020 | Canon DSLR News

In an interview with Techradar, Canon’s product marketing specialist David Perry talks about the Canon EOS R5 and where it fits.

On the ergonomic decisions for the Canon EOS R5

“We’ve got the joystick on here, instead of the Multi-function bar. Everybody knows the multi-function bar on the EOS R got a mixed response – some people really got on with it, some people really couldn’t get on with it at all,” he said. “So maybe going with this is a safer bet – more people are used to the multi-controller.”

“Because this is a 5-series, more people at that kind of level will expect functions similar to what you get on a 5D.” he added.

What’s a “realistic” lens that you’d like to see Canon make?

What’s a “realistic” lens that you’d like to see Canon make?

By Canon Rumors | March 23, 2020 | Canon Lens Rumors

I posted the question of what lens you’d like to see Canon make, the only rule is it had to be somewhat realistic. No “RF 10-1000mm f/1L IS 1.4-2.0x USM” sort of suggestions.

I started with a lens I have wanted for the EF mount, and now I’d like to see it for the RF mount. I love the 28mm focal length and I’d love a nice fast L version for the upcoming EOS R5.

What about a super-fast wide-angle astrophotography prime?

How about a short fast zoom with IS?

A few people would like to see a fast RF 135mm lens.

Maybe we can go all-in on some amazing sports glass?

The EF mount is still getting some love.

Where oh where is that 600mm f/4 DO Canon?

SIGMA did this, but as a zoom, so I guess it’s “realistic”!

… and then there’s poor ahsanford

Sound off in the forum if any of these lenses tickle your fancy, or if you have any other great ideas. Canon engineers definitely read this site!

image.canon to launch on April 14, 2020

image.canon to launch on April 14, 2020

By Canon Rumors | March 23, 2020 | Canon Software

image.canon appears to be launching on April 14, 2020. This is Canon’s new online image storage service.

There are still a lot of questions about this service, especially which cameras are going to be supported? Will this only work over Wifi, or will you have the option of using it via LTE? Why is there a separate app for image.canon?

On the surface, the service looks like it could be a winner, as long as it’s reliable and easy to use.

Lensrentals.com: How to Disinfect Camera Equipment and Spaces

By Canon Rumors | March 23, 2020 | Industry News

From Lensrentals.com:

I’m qualified to talk about this subject to some degree; I take care of a ton of camera equipment, and I was a physician in my past life. And I’ve had so many requests for information about this that it seems logical to put something out, so everyone has access to it.

That being said, at this moment in time, there are NO right answers. This is my best knowledge and best opinion. Other people have other thoughts. Two weeks from now, new information may make some of this incorrect or show there are better ways to do things. If I say something today and the CDC says something else next Thursday, go with the CDC.

Five new EF-M lenses for the EOS M lineup coming? [CR1]

Five new EF-M lenses for the EOS M lineup coming? [CR1]

By Canon Rumors | March 20, 2020 | Canon Lens Rumors

A report today suggests we may see five new EF-M lenses in the next 24 months. I have not heard anything that would corroborate this information at this time.

Rumored EF-M lenses:

  • EF-M 15mm f/2 STM
  • EF-M 52mm f/2 STM
  • EF-M 62mm f/4 Macro IS STM
  • EF-M 18-45mm f/2.8-4 IS STM
  • EF-M 100-300mm f/5.6-8 IS STM

With everything going on globally, there is obviously a lot of uncertainty about new products and the timelines of these products. Once I can confirm or deny anything, I’ll let you know.
