Just a fun post
In a rare move, DPReview with a typo! or is it?

Just wanted to point out the camera in this picture is NOT the 1D Mark IV.
thanks for the tip
cr

FIRST! : )
Mmmm… I guess I better start saving
beautiful angle
saved 3K. 4k left to go
Considering the number of times that Phil Askey has complained that Canon gives him NO advanced information, I have to believe that it’s a typo…or maybe a wish.
second!
See this link:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dsmarkIII/page2.asp
The same page…
It’s a typo.
third!
Most interesting is that the image above also reads Mark IV.
That’s certainly not a typo… right?
He fixed it already
It’s been there quite some time and it was written like this in different sentences all over the review.
thats a 1ds maek IV, the bulge on the flash differ from my 1d mark IV.
A 1Ds Mark III would differ as well, since the D and the Ds are different format (APS-H vs FF), and require different mirror assemblies. Just because it isn’t the same as our 1D IV does not mean it’s not a 1Ds III
i bet its gonna be 8k
That’s dark!
my 1d mark IV .

Yes – that’s a 1D Mark IV :) and my point was that both the 1Ds Mark III and the 1Ds Mark IV would look different due to the components needed to support the different sensor sizes. In simpler terms, if you put a 1Ds Mark III next to a 1D Mark IV, the tops would look different.
It is a 1Ds? something, maybe a Mk III. But the top pictured is not that of a 1D4!
It is identical to my 1Ds MkIII, so if it is a MkIV the pentaprism/top plate is the same as the MkIII.
Not so unusual, really. Their notice of the T1i firmware update referred to it as a TLi throughout until they fixed it.
The typo was to link the wrong image from their database.
Just go to the page, and right click on the image and read the properties. It is titled 1Ds MK III.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dmarkIV/page2.asp
It is likely that they are preparing a eventual review for the 1Ds MK IV, and have started by making a placeholder copy of the 1DS mark III pages. Thats how I would do it. Then fill in with new photos and update the description and other information.
DPReview has never made a typo before, ever.
Not a typo – scroll down to the bottom of the page and you’ll notice the green typeset indicating it was a change or update from the 1Ds Mark III. Though the changes have no bearing, the fact that further errors were repeatedly made on an individual basis (not updated by linked text sections) indicates someone had Mark IV on the mind… By the way, good call on the pre loaded template which was errantly put up on the site. Connect the dots. Someone is actively preparing a review. I wonder who?
Oh, and the typo in green at the bottom is still there. Oops.
Sorry, but I think that judicious use of Occam’s razor is required. This IS a typo that’s been blow out of all proportions.
Basically, DPR have been a bunch of lazy so and so’s and have simply copy pasted large portions of the 1Ds MkIII review into this article.
Sorry, but as I see it, this would seem to be the simplest explantion!
see my comment above. actually not typos. they must have people typing who know nothing about cameras. Yes, you can mistake a “1” for an “l” but anyone who knows cameras should know there is no TLi.
1Ds Mark IV is around the corner anyway
DPR have become funny buggers lately. In their PMA report, they slipped in a pic of a Nikon F100 with a D900 sticker on it.
DPReview has the worst website layout ever. Content look’s good, great actually from what I hear, but I’m afraid people’s brains might implode if they have to navigate on there for more than 24 seconds.
Don’t you mean 14 seconds? 24 seconds is suicidal.
(Even 14 is pushing it)
thirty-first!!
It has begun.
Yeah, that’s the same image as the Mark III.
seems strange that its got a h speed mode for “film advancement” if it is a “Ds” and not “D”
ah well seems like the ds III had it as well… solly
Dpreview have one of the better web designs for a photo test site. It’s very functional, locks the layout so pictures are shown as intended and fortunately haven’t yielded to literary hundreds of clueless forum posts that demands a redesign.
The 1Ds3 has a “H” film advancement mode as well.
Last
Actually, it is still there, I just followed the link from the right hand column:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dmarkIV/page2.asp
However, the review is not listed on their main page anymore. They must have it down trying to correct it.
We reported mistakes in DPReview’s reviews more than once, and once they weren’t corrected in the first report, nor the second….
They are humans, can make mistakes too.
But it’s a good website, and obviously with Canon support.
I think it is the 1Ds mkIV. The ISO is on a different position.

http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS1DMarkIV/Images/InhandTd.jpg
I don’t see a difference
Sorry! Compare the above picture of the supposed 1D(s) mkIV with this one http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS1DMarkIV/Images/InhandTd.jpg form the real 1D mkIV
If you look at the properties and url of the pic you get:
http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS1DSMarkIII/images/specsview01.jpg
A 1ds mark 3 image.
The pic may be from a Canon 1Ds Mark IV but ON a 1D Mark IV
It’s a 1Ds Mark III :(
The identical image is all over the internet.
i.e.
http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/16042/canon-eos-1ds-mark3/
http://www.expansys.com/zoompic.aspx?type=item&i=155313
Thats the Best comment: So its def. at the frontdoor:
* New or changed compared to the EOS-1Ds Mark III
That’s a 50mm EF-S lens attached to it if I’m not mistaken. That would mean that it’s not a full-frame 1Ds, no?
Ergo, 1D, not 1Ds.
No I’m mistaken, it’s EF. Silly me.
It’s def not a MkIV
The 1DmkIV has an extra *hump* in the front for the HDMI connection….I would assume the new 1ds would support HDMI as well and therefore the same hump would be present…and it’s not.
Also, a direct overlay with the 1Ds image shows it’s identical.
Lazy reviewers =P
Idiots!
The 1D’s can’t take EF-S either.
thats like 2-3 years ago
LOL – there was a very easy way to figure this out… if you right click the image in the DP Review page, it reads:
http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS1DSMarkIII/images
Seems they copied over the 1Ds III review and changed details, but not the images… the photo of the magnesium body (lower on the same page) also has the ridges along the hot-shoe and another right click and choosing properties, shows it too is a 1DsMarkIII image…
Happy motoring!
– Will
Oh I see. Thanks for the info.
i am idiot too.
very true :-))
it´s not for kids anyway, you better buy a 7D it´ll serve you better.
i mean if you are not a pro then you dont need it!!!
and if you are a pro then you should get a mamiya or hassy or phase ;-))
This is really a great camera for a professional.
