Oh my god… Terrible. Yet good in its own sense.
7D takes cool hi res pix, even though it is not exactly a CoolPix, it is cutching up with them in pixel density, 232 pixel/mm (5184pixel/22.3mm), Canon Pro1 was 370pxl/mm (3264pxl/8.8mm). The pro1 2/3″ sensor size with the same pixel density as 7D, would be 3.1MP. Pro2 (2.5x crop) would be 7.7MP.

They should make it even better more weather proof..
Good enough to scuba dive with it? The last time I checked, you can’t carry the 1D3/1Ds3/D3/D3x/D700 for scuba diving without an external casing.
Waterproofing is not equal to weather proof. :)
I hope all dslr’s get at least this level of weather proofing from now on,
but I would have to guess that only the xD(1, 3, 5, 7) bodies will get it.
Maybe this is the way to get less noise with the 7D… just bring it in Antartica at -40… noise is in relation with temperature, right ? ;-) Hope the cold help the sharpness as well (I know it won’t, but I’m still hoping anyway) then this will be my winter camera.
How does this compare to other prosumer DSLR’s? The 1 and 5 series should last, but what about the xxD? (40D, 50D, etc?)
Does anyone have experience with the 40 or 50D in a wet climate without any covers?
even point and shoots could reach the summit of mt.Everest..at that high altitude. why not this expinsive cameras?

Did you read the review? They guy mentions that his 50D didn’t do so well when it got wet. Not to mention they aren’t weather sealed like the 7D is.

Sure. Some point and shoot cameras are even waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof (e.g. Olympus Stylus 6010). You should be using those cameras, so why are still trolling around Canon DSLR sites?

This doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve used my 5DII in the pissing rain and sea spray recently in Cornwall. My camera and lenses got pretty much as wet, if not a little worse. Ive had no real issues other than the top LCD got a bit of condensation in it. One night on a radiator sorted that out, thankfully it was rain water and not sea water. Did anyone else see that sea lion taking a bite out of his gitzo tripod leg in the bottom right of the frame on his web site? Its not just the harsh weather this guy needs to be wary of!

My G7 went swimming in the gulf of Thailand for about 15 mins, it still works (2 years later) after a month or so drying out, the autofocus light stays on every now and then but apart from that the camera still works great.
Remind me never to buy gear from a professional.
Even though the 5d mkII can take a beating, I’d like to see 7D level weatherproofing on future cameras please. Just an extra feature that is extremely handy.
I don’t mind risking a 7D, but the snow on that 300 2.8L gives me the shivers…
Forget the 7D, look at that sweet 300 2.8L IS all covered in snow :)
The 5DII and 7D have the same level of weather sealing. The 40D and 50D had less weather sealing than either the 5DII and 7D.
That’s not true. The 5D2 sealing is not the equivalent of the 7D sealing.

Actually, the 5D2 and 7D both claim weather sealing ~equivalent to the EOS 1N. The 5D2 white paper mentions the EOS 1N, and the DP Review in depth review for the 7D (white paper not out??) also mentions the EOS 1N. The renderings showing the weather sealing (both from DP Review) show some small differences, but they are quite similar.
