  • … who cares about you?

a lot of people are waiting for the 7D, and plenty of them will be folks in the UK.

    smells like troll meat

  • It’s £700 ($1,100+) extra for the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. That’s more than the price of an EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 and nearly three times the price of an EF-S 17-85mm!

  • Wow, the UK is DEFINITELY paying top-dollar to get first dibs on the 7D. I’ll just wait patiently (well, as patiently as I can anyway) for my Amazon.com pre-order to come thru.

  • Sorry, the price is not ridiculous. It is just an European price. Prices on the other side of the Atlantic is way lower than prices here in Europe. So this is what is to be expected on he new 7d as well.

Lowest price announced here in Denmark currently is just below 12.000 Danish Kroner for 7D body only. That is around 2350 USD or 1500 British pounds – so we can get a a bit cheaper than at Jessops in theU UK, but way more expensive than in US. But this is comparable to all other camera prices, so I’ll have to live with it :-)

  • Biggest problem is though, the 7D just ain’t that good, I’m digging the 24p but the image quality is a bit meh otherwise.

  • Finally a well explained and well based opninion on a camera which is not on sale yet. Wow. Another “smart” 12 y.o.

  • Australian RRP is about US$2300 at the moment, but that includes 10% sales tax. Street prices are already below US$2000, again including 10% sales tax. It’s low enough that you wouldn’t save any money importing yourself.

So we don’t have it too bad here considering the rest of the world’s getting raped. £1700, blimey…

  • really? the IQ as compared to what camera? please enlighten the rest of the professional photography world that has been unanimous in its regard of the preliminary 7D photos’ IQ

  • I’m on the fence right now. My preorder is in, but I’m about 90% sure I’m going to cancel it.

I’m seeing a lot of conflicting information at this point, the latest being a mini-review from luminous landscapes: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/7D-hands-on.shtml

He makes several positive comments about the 7D, but I find the following very concerning:

“Though Canon placed no restrictions on my ability to report on image quality, other than to indicate that any pictures shown are “Beta Sample Images” I am going to punt, and will not be describing in any detail the image quality that I have seen from the Canon 7D.

Frankly, the reason is that I am seeing things which I am not sure are a consequence of the camera’s inherent characteristics or are specific to pre-production cameras or even this specific camera. This includes overall image softness and some digital artifacting. Nothing terrible mind you; just enough though that I am aware of it, and therefore don’t want to make any undue assumptions.

The major camera technical review sites will have their in-depth analysis of full production cameras soon enough, and once you’ve been able to read a couple of them you’ll be able to draw a pretty good conclusion about this for yourself.”

  • Hookers care about me. A LOT.

No seriously the price sucks. Sorry brits. Hope beta samples aren’t the norm.

  • Yes, stuff costs more in the UK, but we get paid more

The real killer is the exchange rate for the Yen at the moment. Here in the UK no sign that the value of the pound will pick up. Yen might fall as its high value is hurting Japan’s economy.

  • How long do you guys think it will take for the UK price to go down on these?

What price will they go down to? Such as the 50d, which canon value at £1300(ish) and are now available for around £800.

  • Kevin is saying that this machine is a terminal can it be checked out again and please contact this kevin. Unable to access pacs on this machine. If same as terminal in that room please change numbers and details on system. The pc is not terminal like for this pacs isn’t in working command and Kevin is not amused.

  • I agree. Seen some quite good pre-order bundles including the 7D + 580EXII for £1789 meaning you’re getting the body for about £1500. I expect the price will level out at about £1300, it probably would of gone cheaper but with V.A.T. going up in January this price seems realistic.

  • …okay, what the hell,
    I’ll say it…

    “Jstone,” you are a troll.
Or, quite possibly suffering from some sort of brain-trauma, in which case, please accept my sincerest apologies.

  • Thank God, atleast there is one person in this planet who understands that things are expensive in UK and income levels are high correspondingly. I tried to explain this but people refuse to understand. They want to pay US dollar equivalents for their purchases but want british standard of income.

  • Sorry my friend but you are wrong. I used to think that way until I lived in US for 6 months. Salaries are a lot better in USA than in the UK even Taxes are lower over there. maybe in EUROPE we have more Cultural and Art Stuff but wehn you talk about money N.America is the PLACE.

  • Expect it to match the D300s streetprice fairly quickly, around £1300.

The UK is , to my knowledge, the only place where there is a significant price differeence between the two, in fact its cheaper than the Nikon in the US.

  • Offical Stats for UK
