Really? I was talking with a regular source and all indications he’s receiving is that there will be no 1Ds Mark IV or replacement of the 1Ds Mark III in 2011. There is going to be a very big departure in the high end from Canon. CR’s Take The 5D Mark II took from the 1Ds3 market in a lot of cases (not all). A replacement of the 5D Mark II would do the same if they kept the status quo for a 1Ds4 upgrade. I hope to hear more soon. cr

First reports of repaired lenses. The first set of Tamron owners have received lenses back from Tamron correcting the cross-type sensor issue with certain Canon DSLR bodies. The 17-50 f/2.8 VC was sent in and Tamron’s official statement for the fix was “autofocus adjustment”. This is a bit deceptive, what actually was done was a lens ID change from 37 to 137 (85 f/1.2L II lens ID). Tamron Japan has not officially admitted that there is an issue. Perhaps this is being done to avoid a mass recall of lenses. Cost of repair? For the moment, the lens ID switch…

1D Mark IV Replacement? A known source that has been right in the past sent me some info that is nothing like anything I’ve been told before. It’s claimed the new “1” series camera in 2011 will be a 1D4 replacement and not a new 1Ds. Full frame and slightly lower megapixels (15). Obvious improvements in ISO performance and other minor tweaks. A short lived “1” series camera has only happened once in the past with the 1D Mark IIn. This also goes along with the notion that the next 1Ds would be a massive departure from what we have…

What’s coming from Zeiss? Zeiss will introduce some zooms in 2011 for ZE (Canon) and ZF (Nikon). None of the zooms will go longer than 200mm. A longer Zeiss prime in the 135mm range will also be announced. Zeiss 35 f/1.4 Initial reports I’ve received say the lens is awesome. I cannot wait to try it out. cr

Firmware 1.0.8 for the 60D A reader reports buying 2 60D’s and each camera had a different firmware version. One camera was 1.0.5, the other was 1.0.8. I expect any 60D firwmare update will be “phenomenon” fixes. 1D Mark IV Firmware I’ve been told again that new firmware for the 1D4 is in the pipeline. A feature or 2 may be added which has delayed development. cr

600D Not unexpected, but a new Rebel will arrive in 2011. I’m told it will be announced in the April timeframe. There will be no Rebel XS successor. Expect the T2i to become the entry level Rebel. 5D Mark III Nothing of note. I do expect it to arrive in 2011 in some form. 7D Mark II There won’t be a 7D replacement until at least 2012. 1Ds Mark IV Something is coming at the end of 2011, I’ve had a few more assurances that the camera will be a departure from the current 1Ds family. 1D Mark V Nothing I’m…

Hello from Kenya I’m currently at the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Also known as “The Mara”. I’m obviously having a great time and will be here in Kenya for another 9 days or so. 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS I have one of these lenses with me here in Kenya on Safari. I am working on a review of the lens, it will be a user review like the others. If I could give you a bit of a hint of what I think about it, I’ve taken less than 10 frames with the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and a…
