Hello from Kenya I’m currently at the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Also known as “The Mara”. I’m obviously having a great time and will be here in Kenya for another 9 days or so. 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS I have one of these lenses with me here in Kenya on Safari. I am working on a review of the lens, it will be a user review like the others. If I could give you a bit of a hint of what I think about it, I’ve taken less than 10 frames with the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and a…

Effective December 6, 2010, Canon will start to provide as a chargeable service, a locking mode dial modification for the “EOS 5D MarkII” and “EOS 7D” digital single-lens reflex cameras. For USA residents, the pricing of the locking mode dial modification service for EOS 5D Mark II and 7D cameras has been set at $100 per camera as of December, 2010. (Pricing and availability subject to change without notice.)…

What’s not coming All the patents for DO lenses has sparked some questions. I’m told that no DO lenses are planned for the near future. What is coming? From a decent source, this is claimed to be the roadmap. Timing of this stuff is still up in the air. You just have to look at the delays of the new lenses until March to see nothing is ever written in stone. There will be an abundance of “speciality” lenses. I can see it happening, you’re not going to sell that many tilt shift lenses, so production is less of an…

Black Friday deals too I am making no money on this, the folks at LR.com have been great to me and thousands of others. They’ve started a huge sell-off of used rental gear. Lots of 7D’s and 5D Mark II’s have been added. They’re going to go fast. Their “Black Friday Deal” is 10% of ALL used gear from 6:00 AM CST Thursday and through until 11:59PM CST Friday. Visit LensRentals.com *UPDATE* It looks like the 5D Mark II’s are all gone now. *UPDATE 2* The 7D’s are gone now.  Still a lot of great lenses to choose from. I…

New Processors Over at NL they received information that DIGIC V would show up in 2011. The 1Ds replacement would utilize the new processor. As you can expect, better image quality, movie quality and throughput should be expected. More DIGIC V I was told a little while ago that there would be 2 versions of DIGIC V. It wasn’t explained as to what the different versions would be. I file this under really big grain of salt. cr

Photo Contest Some CR facebook readers probably read about a Christmas photo contest I had planned. That’s been delayed until I can actually buy what I wanted to give away. Thanks Canon. I’ll have something up near the end of January. 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS I haven’t received one yet, but I hope to have one before I head to Kenya. I’d like to do a review with it there. A G12 and 60D review will also be completed sometime around Christmas. Like the Leica M9 review, they’re going to be real world photograph making reviews and nothing overly technical. Year end…
