There have been a few different ship dates posted on various retailer web sites, but everyone seems to have confirmed that cameras will be allowed to start shipping on August 20, 2024. As always, retailers will likely ship a day or two before for online orders and some will let them out early if you’re a walk-in and on a preorder list.
The first allocation of cameras will not meet the preorder demand from the retailers we have talked to, but we have heard from a Canon rep that the second allocation will come about 2 weeks later and that should take care of most preorder lists.
The Canon EOS R5 will remain a current model for the rest of 2024, so expect some great discounts on the body once the EOS R5 Mark II preorders have been met and there is regular stock with retailers. The used market is starting to flood with EOS R5 bodies.
As for battery and cooling grips. They should all be available on day one, but no one seems to know how many will be available over the first couple of allocations.
The Canon EOS R1 is still slated for November, but the exact date is unknown at this time, by both us and retailers.

But the real reason is that I don't need/want another credit card.
Fair point. I too would buy my cars using credit cards if feasible. However, I think the dealer for the last car I purchased wanted to saddle me with the surcharge (the nerve of them!). I politely declined. :(
I got the same email yesterday.
Canon dictates ship dates, they normally ship the day before.
One can just use a Florida shipping service to avoid sales tax and forward it on. Sure you have to wait an extra day or two, but no Payboo card is needed.
It wasn't unusual back in the day, but current times? Nothing makes sense... I mean Canada just beat Australia in rugby.... Yes @[email protected], the ball isn't round.
Smaller retailers sometimes do, but those are few and far between.
