240fps – nice.
Also, first :)
I wonder how much it will be?
Seems like competition for the S90. So perhaps an upgraded S90 with 720p video will be released soon.
Good for compact, but…
only 1-point AF and f/stop F2.0 (great) 5.3 (WHY??)
my old Canon G6 have lens f/2 – f3
that’s pretty frickin cool for a p&$hit.
after seeing Sony’s EVIL announcement today, sigh…
It has a smaller sensor than the S90 though, so maybe not as good in low light, even if it’s backlit. If the low-light performance *is* as good, then maybe we’ll get an S100 (?) in a few months, which has the best of both…
what will canon do next if sony comes up with an EVIL p&s interchangeable lens body? Guess: Will 5DIII be EVIL. anyway, these are EVIL-days for canon…;-)
Interesting, miniature effect.
I’m assuming they mean a fake tilt shift effect which is an odd thing to include.
The 240fps is nice but I would have liked it if they did that with a slower fps in a higher quality mode with at least more 60fps which is just to less for a great slow motion.
And I love the back LCD! So lovely, so wide. Amazing
So we’re repeating news items from DPR now? :P
I miss the old circular rumors circuit where stuff from Northlight gets copied here and then the CR links are spread on the DPR/FM/POTN/LL/TDP forums and then more mainstream gadget-collecting techblogs like Engadget and Gizmodo notice those links and it gets hyped and embellished there and then the NL guy gets sent links from those sites and then he puts up the “new” rumors on his site and then CR get sents the same links and CR guy puts up his own version of the rumors and they cross-link each other and then it gets spread on the photo forums again, ad nauseum…
Let’s hope that the high iso / low res function is integrated in the 60D too.
Hej, the only good thing is canon working on this back-illuminated CMOS, cause they are good at processing pictures and thus the image quality could be better than sony’s and others.
But I can’t see why they putit into an IXUS shape. :(
I have written to Canon to demand that the frame rate is increased from 240fps to 242fps – I urge everyone to bombard Canon with phone calls and emails.
Thank you.
The Team.
I cannot brag about a lot of technical knowledge, but if I am not totally wrong, IXUS-shaped backlit-sensors are the state of the art at this time…
Hej, what I mean : no dials nor buttons to access the manual and semi-manual modes (so they are almost useless). Also with CHDK to come (one day), you need more buttons and accesses. The 16/9 ratio screen (!), no grip nor viewfinder. Also the lens only F5.3 at 108mm is very disappointing.
They’d better make a bigger camera with a bigger lense, that used to be called a powershot, but today those are extinct.
Wow 240 fps!
Rumor or news?
I wonder what the US ELPH name for the 300HS will be.
News
Found out it’s known as the SD4000 in the US.
http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/05/11/canon.sd4000.is.has.cmos.sensor.wide.aperture/
USA — it is called THE POWERSHOT SD4000 IS DIGITAL ELPH CAMERA.
U.S. Price: $349.99

Manual controls for a elph / ixus? Nice…
But please, please, please bring back manual controls to the A-series !
Why doesn’t Canon make a P&S like the Ricoh GR DIGITAL 3 ? That’s something I’d buy !
seriously canon should start standardising product names across regions. whats the point of calling sth differently in different states…
lol

“… Sony has unveiled the NEX-3 and NEX-5 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.”
Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens = MIL, not EVIL.
Sorry Canon, there may be a NEX-5 with a16mm/f2.8 in my future. Cameras are tools, not religious fetishes, make what I want/need if you want to keep me as a customer.
Manual controls, nice … b-b-but no RAW?
And, after having tried to use LCD-only cameras in bright sunlight, I lament the loss of the good old-fashioned viewfinder.
Does anyone think that it is possible to implement 720p 120fps to a DSLR?
Possible, sure. But you’d need three digic IV’s in there.
hm that sux. A firmware update for RAW videos may be impossible too :(
Would be nice when you can connect an external CPU which is implemented in the battery grip (with a huge quadcore CPU instead of 2 batteries. would be nice i think.)
offtopic end.
doesn’t
shoot
raw
Give me back-illuminated CMOS and ultra-high-speed video in my 60D, baby!
Sounds like a job for Digic V…
1-point AF?!
Yeah, now I know that.
a baby version of the S90???

Is this the same sensor as the G11 and S90, or is it a new one?
Hej, it’s not the same size, and CMOS instead of CCD, so it can’t be the same.
It’s an ELPH, of course there’s no RAW.
I like the small size, but without Raw, it’s useless. Those noise reduced JPEG’s won’t cut it.
It’s not like they are naming them differently by accident. What would Canon stand to gain from standardising the names? They use different names for a reason. This is a mass-market segment. If a different name would appeal more in a different culture, then they’ll use a different name. Perhaps they figured out that it will increase sales by 0.37% and they think it’s worth it.
This is also a segment where regional price differentials combined with sales volumes would encourage a grey market. It is much harder to buy a batch of cameras cheaply in the USA and then sell them in Europe for a bigger profit if the product name looks wrong. They can price-gouge more readily if they can keep out the grey-marketeers.
Did you buy the Ricoh?

you’re gay.

?
we’re on a site dedicated to rumors about camers from only one developer. face it, we’re all gay.
