Canon has released their financials for fiscal year 2025 and things are looking good for the imaging division which saw a 7.9% growth in revenue year-over-year. Q4 saw a double digit growth of 13% overall.
Canon sold 2.88 million interchangable lens cameras in 2025 and projects a 2% increase to 2.95 million units in 2026. Canon missed their projected net sales growth by 6.6%, but a lot of that is likely fuled by the global economical challenges. Even with the missed projections, there was still good growth in revenue
The entire interchangable camera market hit 6.7 million units in 2025, and Canon projects an increase to 6.8 million in 2026 and a total unit sales increase of 6.6% over 2025.

PowerShot Camera Sales Growth
Compact cameras are going to be a big sales engine in 2026 for the company. Canon doubled their sales of PowerShot cameras in 2025 with the introduction of the PowerShot V1, along with legacy cameras like the SX740 HS and PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Canon also introduced the ELPH 360 HS A, which was added to the lineup to offer an affordable compact camera option and meet some regulatory things.
This week Canon will announce a limited edition PowerShot G7 X Mark III. I have no idea what will be limited about it, but it's sure to spark a lot of conversation. With the way stock levels are for the G7 X Mark III, the current one could be considered “limited edition.
Canon plans to fully embrace compact cameras in 2026, and I expect that we're going to see follow-ups to both the G7 X II and SX740 HS. If Canon decides they're all-in on PowerShot cameras, we could see some new ideas.
In the fourth quarter, we posted strong sales of the EOS R6 Mark III, a new ull-frame mirrorless camera that we launched in November. We also increased sales of entry-level models during the year-end selling season.
Driven by strong demand, sales of compact cameras doubled from the
previous year due to increased supply through the further expansion of production. As a result, the overall camera business posted double-digit sales growth in the fourth quarter to record an 8% increase for the full year.
In 2026 as well, the number of new camera users, especially younger people, is expected to continue increasing. To capture this demand, we will maintain the growth of our entry level models, such as the EOS R50 and EOS R100, as well as the EOS R50V, which is designed with a strong focus on shooting video.
For full frame models, we will increase unit sales, with a focus on the new EOS R6 Mark III. As for lenses, supported by strong camera sales, we will promote sales expansion based on our expanded lineup. For compact cameras, we plan to further increase production in response to the strong demand that continues to generate backorders.
This will allow us to significantly increase sales, and for the overall camera business, achieve our target to increase full-year net sales by 8%, which is similar to what we achieved in 2025.

Canon EOS R & RF
Canon seems to be happy with the Q4 sales of the EOS R6 Mark III. While they don't break model unit sales, it seems from where I am sitting that is has done well on the sales side of things. Canon also saw growth of their entry level ILC camera bodies.
In 2026, Canon has big plans to increase unit sales of entry-level EOS R cameras. Canon is going to continue the trend in 2025 of targeting younger camera buyers. This has been an area of weakness for the company since the mirrorless market took off.
Canon is happy with the sales of the EOS R100, EOS R50 and EOS R50 V and Canon will continue to develop those lines.
The big money maker in imaging is always lenses, and Canon will continue to be aggressive in expanding the RF lens lineup. There are some perceived “holes” and I think most of those will be filled with new lens ideas.
This week we'll see the RF 14mm f/1.4L VCM and RF 7-14mm f/2.8-3.5 fisheye zoom added to the lineup. Canon will continue to bring more VCM lenses to the lineup beyond the L prime series that we have now.
