ePHOTOzine has completed their review on the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z Lens.

They are pretty happy with the lens, rate it overall as 4.5 stars out of 5, and highly recommend it. The Canon RF 24-105mm is the only F2.8 lens of this type in existence, and it's a lens designed for videography and stills photography. The lens is also solid and weather-sealed.

The Verdict

It's a great lens and Highly Recommended. It goes a long way towards totally fulfilling its objective as laid down at the start of this review. Considering that Canon camera bodies have been used to shoot feature films and broadcast quality TV material it is slotting into an area where there is already a demand.

Whether or not this is a considerable demand must have been determined as a positive by Canon or there would be no such lens on offer now. I can tell you that a few years ago I supplied a Canon body to a Cumbrian TV company to shoot a reportage film crossing China, so I know that Canon have had an enviable videography reputation for a long time, in fact long before the term videography was in common usage.

Canon RF 24-105 f/2.8L IS USM Z Overview

A powerful multiuse zoom for photo and video, the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z Lens from Canon is the first of its kind at this focal length and aperture. By utilizing dual Nano USM motors, this lens achieves fast and nearly silent autofocusing.

The constant f/2.8 aperture allows for optimal low light performance and provides flattering bokeh for portraits at any focal length. In-lens optical image stabilization offers five and a half stops of correction, or eight stops with Coordinated IS when paired with a compatible camera.

Four ultra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements help create sharper images and reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. Additionally, the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 benefits from Super Spectra, Air Sphere, and Fluorine coatings, which work together to minimize ghosting and flare caused by lens surface reflection.
