DJI has announced a new version of their popular action camera lineup, with the new Osmo Action 6 available in two different kits.

The camera is the main story of this new action camera with a brand new 1/1.1″ square sensor, and the integrated lens has a variable aperture of f/2.0 to f/4.0. There is 50GB of internal storage, and DJI has also expanded the wireless audio functionality and gesture control.

A New Lens

The image capabilities are quite a jump from the older Action 5 Pro, which had a smaller 1/1.3″ sensor and a fixed aperture of f/2.8. Between the sensor and the faster lens, the Action 6 Pro should be much better in low light than the previous editions.

The user can expect up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, 10-bit D-Log M, and still be able to record 4K at 120fps in 4:3. The HorizonSteady stabilization mode is now available as the highest resolution in 4K.

In terms of hardware, built-in storage has increased from 47GB in Action 5 Pro to 50GB in Action 6, while the waterproof depth is still good for 65.6’ (197’ with waterproof case), and it has a built-in pressure gauge.

Extended Battery Life in the Cold

Expect about four hours of battery life at a “cold-resistant” design that will work in -4° to 113° F range. It still has the bright dual OLED touchscreen and adds fast charging, timecode, a microSD slot, pre-recording, Wi-Fi livestreaming, and high-speed Wi-Fi file transferring.

The Action 6 has Voice Control and includes Gesture Control to start or stop a recording with a palm motion, though it can be set to start recordings only to avoid stopping them. Action 6 also upgrades the OsmoAudio ecosystem and supports two DJI mic transmitters wirelessly without an additional receiver, as well as Built-in Mic Audio Backup, leveraging the three-mic array inside the camera.
