Canon is coming with a video focused APS-C camera, and we have sporatically reported about it and recently published a rumored specifications for a new APS-C camera.
We have been told that Canon will announced an EOS R50 V, and it has been described as “boxy”.
I don't think this camera fits the rumored specifications for the APS-C camera we previously published, given the pricepoint mentioned of $1500, but one never knows with Canon.
We do know that there will be new segments in the APS-C lineup from Canon.
The EOS R50 is a terrific little camera and a video-centric version with some updated ergonomics will sell extremely well.
I use my EOS R50 for video. I use it on a cheap gimbal and make terrible content, but it has been a fun camera to use. I usually have the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM attached to it.
For photography? It's quite small for my hands. I gave it to Richard to use in Vietnam and he found it small for photography as well.
We did have some fun with the cinderblock RF 28-70 f/2L USM mounted to it.
For now, I don't believe we have detailed specifications for the EOS R50 V, but we do think it's possible that it's announced of CP+ later this month. We will dig a bit more to find out when to expect it. Or Canon could announce it tomorrow.

I'm not speculating, I'm just wishing. I don't know.
I hope "boxy" means EOS Mish.
Good. Canon needs something to compete with the APS-C vlogging cameras Sony ZV-E10 II and Nikon Z30.
And what options it offers. (attachable EVF?)
These current set of crop bodies are certainly useful but they are definitely not awesome. I actually despise them...lazy designs, cheap buttons, and just chunky funky.
An m62 in a smallrig cage just wipes the floor with the r10/50 designs. And feels more modern to boot.
I did a overview of them at B&h the other day. No thanks. And none of them can to fit in my smallest camera bag for M50+ 22 f2. Just design fails all around. Too chunky.
I find the larger cameras easier to hold, my 90D feels easier hold for me then my old smaller and lighter 700D.
Expected outcome : R50 without EVF, upgrades to a newer APS-C 26~3x MP BSI, clog2 capabilities. Sits at $700~900 pricing with a stronger sibling coming out later.
Best scenario : The rumoured stacked APS-C CMOS in a R50 size with IBIS, no EVF, gets R5ii AF, 20~30fps stills, clog2, 4k60 oversampled, 4k120/2k240 subsampled... For a price of an discounted R8.
Waiting on the rumoured Mini-Cine, a boxy R5C?, with C400 sensor. The FX3 equivalent with better ergonomics as my B-cam to my C80.
