It's not good for close-up work. I take my 100-500mm when it's more likely I'll be doing insects, and it's still great for birds. The el cheapo RF 100-400mm is really good for insects.

Just bought a Laowa 55mm tilt-shift macro lens.
Here are some shots with the fully tilted lens of cause hand held and fully manual focused.
The focus peaking helped a lot to adjust the focus plane.
