<strong>Is the EOS M discontinued?</strong>

We’ve received a lot of emails about B&H Photo showing the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/883304-REG/Canon_6609b033_EOS_M_Digital_Camera_with.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">EOS M w/22mm STM</a> kit as “discontinued”. This has worried a few people that did order cameras that were backordered. I think it’s listed as discontinued on their site so no more can be ordered.</p>
<p>We spoke to B&H Photo today and have been told that all backorders will be fulfilled at the sale price. I didn’t get a date as to when that was happening.</p>
<p>The EOS M is likely reaching end of life and a new EOS M camera should be announced shortly. A second EOS M camera will be coming sometime in the fall we’re told.</p>
<p>You can still get great deals on the EOS M body with the EF-M 18-55 IS STM lens.</p>

my girlfriend ordered a white m w/ 22mm from B&H on the 4th and it was back ordered but the new shipment was supposed to get in that day. They eventually got them in this past weekend and shipped out on the 16th. so they are sending out this shipment but they might not get in anymore after filling in the july 4 sale orders.

Well, I hope they stop the fire sale soon, that way resale value can go back up. $300 was a complete steal for a camera of this quality.

resale value on electronics? is there such a thing given how fast technology changes?

on the other hand, if the life cycle of the 1st gen M is indeed coming to an end, i welcome that with open arms! for someone who doesn't need to be an early adopter, i love buying late for deep discounts.

it seems odd that Canon is so schitzo about the M. I am wondering if there is an industry shake up about to happen - maybe caused by rumors of new NEX.
I just hope this means that the dam will burst and we'll see a bunch of fast focusing high quality mirrorless (or whatever they are called now) cameras on the market
I know a lot of people will disagree but I'm thinking many entry level DSLRs could be replaced by the mirrorless equivalent of say an SL100.
I thought that the K01 was a pretty cool idea but the designer flop was a huge mistake.
bottom line is focus speed in single shot because many (I'm guessing) entry level users aren't going to use continuous anyway.
something is in the air. this could get interesting!

The two M kits are top sellers on Amazon right now. I wonder if Canon is taking a loss, breaking even, or still making a small profit? If either of the latter, Canon would be wise (IMHO) to keep producing and selling the M at sale prices. Release more M lenses, release a mkII with the 70D sensor, address the minor complaints (focus peaking; more custom dials; etc.). Every person who buys at $299 is a potential lens sale or body upgrade down the road.

Lets face it, no matter how good the camera is it was not priced competitively with the competition. Well, not until the recent "fire sale" deals anyway. It sounds like they are clearing stock for the M2, something which might justify the price tag that canon wants pinned to it. It is not dead, but I think they realise the M did not match people expectations and are probably moving the line along quicker than anticipated in order to grab a slice of the mirrorless pie!

My guess is that they may have rushed the release of the M a bit in order to get a presence in the mirrorless market earlier. Its not been very successful in the US but last time I checked they already had 10% of the Japanese mirrorless market.

To be honest I think that on the net they were always going to be fighting a "fanboy" reaction, generally mirrorless discussion on the net tends to go in that direction a lot and for several years Canon has been the clear "enemy".

I appreciate that my forum post yesterday about concerns with status of my backorder was turned into a posting and followed up on by this website. I feel more confident that my order will be filled at some point. Someone said that maybe the M was a mistake in how it was priced. I wonder about M2. I got thhe M because of the positive reports post firmware update and it meets my immediate needs but if I am only saving $200 over the next model I may want to cancel my order. Wish I had a crystal ball.

The EOS M + 22mm kit is now in stock at B&H.

And B&H just charged my credit card for my EOS M back-order placed July 5th. Status now says "in stock - sent to warehouse." So this backs up what we've heard that B&H will ship all back orders.

I think they temporarily set the item to "Discontinued" to stop the back-orders from piling up. Not that this isn't still a "fire sale" and the current M model is near end-of-life, but I think this means Canon isn't necessarily ready to reveal the successor.

Hopefully the fire sale response has shown Canon that if they price their products competitively, they'll see far more sales.
