FYI: As being posted yesterday at NL
"12th Unfortunately, there still doesn't seem to be any reliable specs doing the rounds... Although one of our 'older' sources tells me (thanks) that a 1D/1Ds merger isn't happening yet and I'll have the replacement for my 1Ds3 by the end of the year.
I've not had any reliable 1D/1Ds merger info for at least three years, when it was suggested as an option that Canon might consider 'one day', but that the differences between the two target markets were just too great. "

If it materializes, a Q1 2012 5Diii might as well...

Cheers, Pedro

Of course, one of the past rumors was that the 1Ds series is dead and that the 5D3 will replace the 1Ds3 as the high resolution camera in the lineup. I've never understood why a studio/landscape camera needs to be as ruggedly built as a photojournalist/sports photographer's camera. Now Canon just needs something that is better than the D3s in low light.

Bob, you must have missed that YouTube vid of the wedding photog falling into the fountain, and I guess you've never met an irate bridezilla.

Seriously, though, a sealed, robust FF body is definitely a need in the market.

I was also thinking that this rumor just give more strength to a possible 6D.
And we can imagine that it would be APS-H, just like a kind of "super 7D"! (more APS-H sensors produced means cheaper ones and means more money for Canon, just like what they did with the FF sensor in 5DmII! ;D)

I've already got it - it's called a 5D2.
Same 21mp FF sensor set up (sorry Digic IV instead of Digic III), same pic quality - but happily runs to 6400 ISO and i've pushed to 12800 and 25600 without hesitation if needed to get the shot. Weather proofing and dual memory card are all it's missing - oh and that wonderful focusing system >:(

You are thinking of the Canon 1Ds3 which is indeed very similar to the 5D2. But Bob was referencing the Nikon D3s which seem to be the high ISO / low light king of DSLRs at the moment.

Quite correct - i mis read the comment...

As you say, Nikon are the current kings of high iso... Not a reason to change brand as the 1D4 is almost as good...
