Hi!

I was searching the internet for examples of its use for motorsports before I bought the new 100-400. I couldn't find much, so I'm putting some of my shots here for you and maybe someone else to see. I got the lens one week before the MotoGP GP of Czech Republic which was held at Brno circuit this past weekend. I must say I'm impressed. I didn't expect such quality and professional look from the images. The lens is incredibly sharp wide open. I think I've closed it down just a couple of times when I wanted more DOF. It's wonderful for portraits as well as it blurs the background really nicely even at f5.6.

When you see many of them in the hands of proffesionals who shoot the whole season, you know it's good. I'm lcuky enough to attend one race per season and this lens is much more than I hoped for. I don't need anything better (not that I can afford it)!

Regards!

Excellent shots mate!
Just a heads up, this is the lens rumours page which is designed for discussions on rumoured lenses.

Have a look at the Image and Video Galleries further down the main page, and here’s a link to the Sports specific page http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?board=21.0

Cheers ;)

Great shots! Can you let us know the camera body you used it on ?

These were taken with 5D mk III. It has a very good AF and Brno track allows you to get really close, so you can get away with it even with a FF camera. I had a Kenko 300 PRO 1.4x converter in the bag, but didn't really need it. It works really well with the lens, while it was useless with 100-400 Mk I.

I've been putting it off for ages but just ordered a 100-400mk2 and the x1.4iii (for my 5d3), sick of lack of sharpness with my 70-200mk2 and the x2 iii, the 70-200 will stay with me as its an awesome portrait and fast action lens with beautiful bokeh, I do love it but think its time for the 100-400 to take a place in my kit bag :)

GREAT Pics btw, shame Val got held up by the Ducs and could not match the pace of JL and MM.

Your pics have cost me a few quid, thanks ;D ::) :P 8)
